Let me just say that I am not here to cause any sort of ridiculous discussion about the toxicity level of our water due to the train wreck. I just saw Giant Eagle is recalling the Gallon Jugs of Spring and Distilled water I drink and use currently so I am planning to make the switch to a water cooler and 5 Gal jugs. I am curious on where people order water for their home consumption?

So far I know of Deans in Washington. Any other places yinz know off hand? Thanks in advance.

***bonus points for your current price per 5gal bottle***

I was getting mine from lowes. I use a rechargeable water pump that pops on the top of it.

We have a big pur water filter that we keep in the fridge, only because one of our old apartments had bad pipes, otherwise we would drink straight from the tap

Culligan

About $10 for distilled

I go to whole foods and use their water station. Fill it up with the high ph water and then at check out pay for reverse osmosis water. 50 cents a gal.

I just use a home water distiller don’t ever have to worry about the source or plastic leaching from containers. Just add electrolytes in to taste after and you’re good to go. You could source Mon water if you wanted.

PWSA. It comes right to my house, on demand, without me having to do anything. It’s also affordable, they will sell me 1000 gallons for $14.64. Or you can go to a store and buy 5 gallon jugs at a cost of $500 for a 1,000 gallons.

Buy a quality filter that hooks up to your water supply. It’s a terrible idea environmentally and financially to use bottled water as your primary drinking supply.

Almost all bottled water is filtered tap water.

PWSA ships it directly to my house through pipes buried underground. It's a weird setup, but it works out well for us.

I agree with you on the environmental end with all the single use plastic. That is typically why I buy the gallon jugs to help mitigate that (still bad I know), and now, trying to just have 5 Gal jugs I can get refilled and reuse.

And almost all bottled water is tap... besides spring. I love some Deer Park Spring but its getting pricier and pricier.

Don’t forget about the energy spent to move that water to the store and then your home. Water is heavy, and it’s not an insignificant factor.

In the case of the 5 gallon refills at the store: those are machines are filtering tap water and are essentially a big ass Britta. So why not filter it at home?

I am renting a Culligan reverse osmosis filtration system. It's super expensive. But they service it and change the filters. It's on my kitchen sink. I've had it for over a year at least. Long before this thing happened.

We use a 5 stage reverse osmosis filter for our drinking/cooking water.

It's way more affordable than buying bottled water. Countless visitors have commented on how great our water tastes.

When COVID hit, I added a 6th stage, which is a UV light to treat the water. My wife is Uber paranoid about this stuff... Anyway, then recently I added a 7th stage re-mineralizer.

A 3 year supply of filters runs me $115.

We love it and you don't have to be a plumber to install it.

Understood. And you got me on the energy part. However, you missed the part where I specified 'Spring Water.' If I find a place that supplies Bulk spring water, It wont be coming from "a big ass britta" when I come to switch old bottles out for new. If I wanted purified water, I'd stick to the britta, ya know?

I’m very skeptical that waters claiming to be from a spring are actually from a spring.

I suspect it’s very loosely defined that almost anything would qualify as spring water. If someone else has time to jump down that rabbit hole let me know

I rent a cooler and do monthly delivery with Tyler Mountain, opting for spring water. I started while I was waiting for a lead service line replacement, and I liked it enough that I’ve kept going with it. No complaints!

I got tired of hauling water and bought a still. Best investment ever. Your only other option, given the mystery soup of industrial chemicals that periodically enter our rivers, is a reverse osmosis filter. Don't waste time with anything else - they mostly just remove chlorine.

  1. Retail theft is theft, no matter who owns the store.
  2. That's one study on mice from 2016 in a very low impact journal. There iare no data in humans that the extra cost makes any difference at all. Also, your stomach is acidic, so the alkaline water is neutralized as soon as it hits your stomach.

It certainly showed up in the wastewater supply - that was one of the leading indicators of a COVID surge in the past. But the water coming out of the tap is pretty much ALWAYS treated, and when there’s a risk of contamination, we are placed under a boil water advisory, as Oakland and some surrounding neighborhoods experienced recently.

I always get my 5 gallon jugs from Home Depot or Giant Eagle. Whoever has them in stock. Bought a little electric pump for less than $30 that I use at home. No fancy water cooler needed. When I have to drink the tap water, it makes my throat feel weird. Been doing this for years.

dobsco t1_j9lplar wrote

Why are you still buying bottled water? There is no reason to do so unless you live in an area with unsafe drinking water, which we do not.

I got a 7 stage reverse osmosis filter system for under my sink. It wasn’t too hard to install and the water is delicious. Around $400 on Amazon, but worth every cent.

Comes out of the tap with a sulfur smell usually and is usually cloudy before it clears up. Every house has some sort of reverse osmosis or 3 stage cleaning system cause the water is so hard.

Had to replace my shower heads every 2 yrs when I lived there

That is simply silly. Besides the many people like myself that have a still, there are countless others that buy jugs of distilled to drink because that don't trust the source of "spring" water.

Deer park is absolutely fucked. That's Nestle stealing public water and selling it back for mad profit. Fuck bottled water. Get a filter and stop diluting yourself into believing that any single-use plastic is any type of solution.

So If you distill your own water or buy certain types of distilled water like just “steam distilled” the end product is very pure water. (Some brands add stuff back in after the process usually branded as re-mineralized) So it has no minerals in it. Drinking large quantities of pure distilled water without adding some sort of electrolytes back will in theory pull those healthy minerals out of your body. Think of it as a magnet for all the stuff that got pulled out of it when it was distilled.

It’s not unsafe per say you just need to be aware of it and if you choose to do it yourself or buy it without minerals I would recommend buying some sort of electrolytes to add to it. I personally use LMNT flavored salt packets most days, or Keto Chow (not flavored) off Amazon

Use to buy bottled Water. But a few months ago we bought a Britta pitcher and enough filters to last a decade. We like that much better than lugging around plastic bottles and we also don't have as much plastic waste.

Ignore all the virtue signaling here. Most folks are having cases of 20oz bottles of water delivered by Walmart by some twenty-something who already has a bad back.

Just get a filter for your tap, and cases of individual waters have been fine to buy for emergency use
