Hi all. I recently took in my father who is sick with cancer. He was in Maryland but can no longer take care of himself. He has a ton of doc appointments though, several each week, and I just can’t get off work to take him to these. Feeling overwhelmed. Is there any transportation service available in the Pittsburgh region for things like this? We live by the airport and he needs to go downtown a few times a week. He wouldn’t know how to use the bus system or anything like that. Preferably looking for a car service to pick him up and bring him back. Thanks.

Have you talked to his insurance provider?

zTrip might be a good option. I work at a nursing facility and we use them quite often for our patient’s appointments.

Does he go to St Clair? They have free transportation to most surrounding areas for St Clair appointments.

See if your dad can talk to a social worker at the cancer center. They should be able to find him options for transportation. They’ll also have recommendations for other services that might be helpful. There are also support groups for cancer caregivers that could be helpful for you or other family members, if no one has mentioned those yet.
