Yinzer, born and raised. My parents still live in Dormont, where I grew up. I've lived in Louisville the last 10 years and have only been back one weekend since 2020 due to obvious circumstances.

My girlfriend and I are coming for a week for our birthdays, including the Pens/Preds game tomorrow (she's a Preds fan but we'll change that).

Last time I was in town was in 2021 for a weekend. I obviously have my personal favorite places (gotta hit Fiori's and Campiti's and Slapshots as a Dormont kid), but I know a lot has changed, including since I was back two years ago.

I'm not asking for the tried and true spots, those are already on the list. Is there anything that has popped up in the last two years that has really been killing it?

We're both chefs, and my background is in the brewery industry, so we're up for any bars, restaurants, breweries, or distilleries that are new. Back Alley in Dormont is already on our list, for instance. I am happy to spend money at a great restaurant but we also both love dives, like Gooski's or the aforementioned Slapshots.

We'll be driving up so it doesn't matter if it isn't in the south hills, we'll be able to travel around.

Thanks yinz. Let's go Pens.

Gaucho is awesome … especially the happy hour at the bar with half off the apps … you can make a nice meal out of it

If you can get a reservation, Pusadees Garden is a must since they reopened in 2021 after 4 years of renovations.

Brewery wise I think starting at Necromancer for some unique beers, then a stop at grist house for some outdoor action and unique beers, then finishing at strange roots for a sour and some pittsburgh sandwich society might be the best brewery crawl possible. Wouldnt be hard to add hop farm, cinderlands, eleventh hour and/or trace from there either.

But if you are going to be in the south hills anyways, might want to keep it simple with spoonwood (great bbq too) and hitchhiker.

Sq hill has a new northern china eatery, amazing dumplings, that I recommend
