Hey I use to smoke cigarettes in the alley.

Human poop was the least of your concerns.

As I see it, there are only two reasons humans would poop in that alley; sheer desperation, or spite. If it is out of desperation than offering an alternative would work way better than the sign and if it is out of spite than the sign will just make it worse.

Yeah if you’re living on the street, you don’t exactly have another place to poop aside from the street. Sure, sometimes in the day you may be able to go into a business and poop but that’s if you don’t get kicked out for not buying anything. At night, there’s no where else to go. Do I find poop on the street disgusting? Of course. But where else are they supposed to go

yes, it is certainly a shame this sign discouraging people from shitting in taxpayer-funded spaces exists

It's a shame people are shiting in the streets enough to warrant a sign

Did that guy really think you were defending people shitting in public??

might_be_a_b0t t1_jdfdaic wrote

i’ve seen articles online defending people’s choice to shit in public, so i wasn’t sure. i never know for sure what y’all leftists really think nowadays. e.g. someone above literally said “fix the problem, not the symptom,” which means they’re okay with people shitting on the street.

1

ryanobes t1_jdfjem3 wrote

That's 1000% not what they mean and I don't see how you got to that conclusion.

By fixing the problem, there are now symptoms. I.e. no pooping in the street.

I never thought about blowing my horn in a tunnel. Until I saw a sign saying it was forbidden. Now every time I go through a tunnel, that’s all I want to do. My wife, who has far more common sense than I do, acts as the good spirit on my shoulder and makes sure I don’t make a total ass of myself. But your point is well made: one of the quickest ways to get people to do something is to tell them they can’t

The people who poop on streets don't give a damn about this sign or any other. Might as well have posted a sign for the cat-sized rats.

Because they don’t have a choice. Do you think people want the lack of dignity and privacy that this entails?

hubbyofhoarder t1_jd7w9rm wrote

I love the thought process behind this sign.

If someone is in a headspace or life circumstance where they are considering finding a place to poo outside, does the sign poster think they're going to see this and think "Well, damn! I guess this isn't the place. I'll just move along to a place without a sign."

Alley next to 2nd Ave garage.

Edit: 6th Street garage next to alihans maybe the sketchy Greek joint if that's still there and between the pizza shop. Dunno why I had such a brain fart there

Christos is somehow both very nice and also very sketchy. He walks a thin line, that man.

Christos! I completely forgot the name of that joint. It's still there?

Last I checked!

I actually never loved eating inside because it's dingy and cramped, especially post-covid, but I sometimes stop in just to get the Jackie O dessert to go.

"I used to make for Jackie Onassis, on the yacht." (Which is apparently true as far as I know.) It's this whipped custard cake thing and it's very good, Jackie or no lol

I see different piles of human shit almost every week on the walkway over the 10th street bridge. I’m convinced it’s the same person.

Saw a man pooping in the middle of the road in Portland during rush hour. Between that and having to hopscotch around piles and puddles there and LA, I’m honestly somewhat disgustingly desensitized to it by now…

Which Alley is this? There is a legendary set of Alley's that run parallel to Stanwix street. It starts at 4th Avenue where all the PPG and surrounding business people go to smoke, nicknamed BumPoo Alley. Then it extends down to the next alley behind McDonalds with the loving name of BumPee Alley.

This picture makes it look like there is way less poo and trash everywhere, they must have gussied it up for the Google car.

In deep winter during the late 90’s, a hobo took a gargantuan human poop in the middle of the 6th Street bridge walkway. Overnight, it froze solid, which led to two workmen to attack it with a shovel and a pick axe in the morning. If only this sign had been posted, it wouldn’t have changed a thing.
