Yes, the pandemic killed it off

I was so sad about that, but I went the last weekend of was open and the owners were kind of relieved about it it seemed like. They had a good outlook on it.

I give them credit, they made that place last in that less than prime location since at least 2005.

Damn, did it finally open? I wired that place, kinda weird to see it being talked about

People who haven’t been down here since 2013 will still tell you it’s shit and dangerous

It's the best of both worlds (unless you're hanging outside the club at 2 am). Some cool local dives on a historic city street, now the new spots on a pedestrian plaza down there. Easy access to downtown and Oakland. We are killing it!

Comparing the Southside Works to the problem bars of the 'teens streets of E Carson is like comparing Greenfield to Hazelwood

Hey, they have to show they have a chip on their shoulder somehow. I bet you're a suburbanite who drives a full sized SUV and chooses Huntz ketchup!

HornlessUnicorn t1_itkrltd wrote

Somehow I feel like you haven’t seen that end of Carson in early 2000s. Still worlds better in 2013, even if it was in decline.

Tasty_Bend t1_it9l432 wrote

I can’t wait to check it out. I walked by earlier today but they weren’t open yet.

With Living in the Southside it’s so nice to see the Southside Works being brought back to life!

ballsonthewall OP t1_it9lecv wrote

For sure, really transforms the neighborhood down this way! I moved here in 2020 and it was so dead all the time, depressing.

4

Tasty_Bend t1_it9lwh7 wrote

I’ve been here since 2000 so I remember how exciting it was when it opened. I also worked in the Southside at the time so would go shopping there on my lunch break.

It was tough seeing all the shops leave but I really like the direction they are going with now.

The more local shops, restaurants and bars they can open the better.

There are several in Columbus, the one at Easton has a slide that you can take from the second floor down to the first, if you want.

Do you pay to get in or pay per game?

Free to get in. Pay for games.

Arcade machines take quarters?

Just an update to this, the arcade games were free to play when I was there Friday. I actually asked for change and was told they were free. Unsure, if this is just an opening weekend thing or what.

bryguypgh t1_itmf4r2 wrote

I was wondering because they claim to be cashless.

I finally got to Coop de Ville this past week and had a good time...I'm not sure Pittsburgh is big enough to have three of these kind of places (and it's a little funny that we finally have them after being ~5 years behind the trend), but they're pretty fun.

I think there should be a place like this where you throw axes at the people bowling. OK, more seriously: Nerf axes.

just make sure you’re tipping in cash, they’re one of those places that need to be on the shady tip pool list. ass company to work for in general which is sad cause it is a cool concept.

There's been a number of other changes. New dog park, beer truck, and the plaza has been renovated with a BBQ, a taco, and a Pizza place as well as a large outdoor seating area. It's quite a change.
