May all the friends and family of those killed find peace. Rest in peace, Dr. Jerry Rabinowitz. You saved my mother's life.

Such a heartbreaking day. I haven’t watched the documentary yet- looks like it was well done; our community is beautiful. still, I know it will be tough. 15 seconds into the trailer and I’m a mess.

I may have to get HBO for a month if this won't be available otherwise.

Is this really that "historical" though? Don't mistake that with me saying it shouldn't be remembered, especially the victims and their families. It was horrible event by a sick individual and that was that. I just don't really see what is to be taken away or learned from this.

Idk maybe it has good intentions, but sometimes I just see Hollywood anymore tryna make a story and buck of anything. Sometimes before the dust even settles. Don't need a film made about every tragedy that happened.

Kinda echoing my other reply. I just don't really see what is to be taken away from a documentary on an event like this other than re-opening an old wound. I don't like when media gives these assholes any more attention. Not always, but often I see films like these as Hollywood just using material to make a new film and nothing else. If the document focuses on the victims and their families than great, I hope it does.

To answer your question more directly take for instance a documentary about 9/11. To me there was a lot that went wrong that led up to that that. There were a lot of unspoken heroes and individuals who made sacrifices to save lives. And ultimately it lead to a war for years in the middle east that changed the course of history. There is a lot to be learned and taken away from a documentary like that. Many things you might not have otherwise known. We can learn where we messed up and maybe how to better prevent that from ever happening again, and we have.

Maybe I'm wrong, but for a documentary on a shooting like this, imho there just really isn't. It'll just retell a sad story of an unfortunate event due to a sick individual.

It was the deadliest anti-semitic terrorist attack in American history. What about that isn't historical?

And that's to say nothing of the rise of neo-fascism and white nationalist radicalization that led up to it and now has mainstream support.

I understand why you'd think this is distasteful, but everyone in the film participated voluntarily and there were no reenactments. The people in the film may just want to tell their stories, and those watching it are likely to better understand the timeline of the events. It's really no different than a news article with video - it's just longer.

It's important to remember this event so we don't forget that violent antisemitism is a modern issue as well. Other hate-motivated shootings such as Buffalo are further evidence that white nationalism requires monitoring.

I think there is some value in remembering the people who were killed, as well.

Edit: Also, you refer to the documentary as being related to "Hollywood" in another comment. There are no actors in it. It's just long-form video journalism.

Very sorry to hear that. It may perhaps be a largely unnoticed casualty of the attack - a community that was broken and may take a very long time to be repaired.
