We all came to the office for the first time in two and a half years to have a quarterly meeting so I parked behind the office and paid for eight and a half hours of parking via the app. I verified the lot number posted on the lot with the one on the app.

I came out about 6 hours later to put my laptop in the car cuz we were heading down the street for drinks paid for by the company. And I see I have an expired meter parking ticket on my windshield.

These parking meter people are so lazy that if you don't have a receipt on your dash they'll just throw a ticket without checking your system to see if he even paid. And to top it off they put down a five character license plate number which mine has the typical 7 characters and the fifth character did not even line up with the fifth character in my license plate.

Like how can you be sooooo lazy and terrible at your job?

Sounds like that ticket isn't your problem since it doesn't match your plate number. (Not legal advice lol)

They typed in the wrong plate, and whatever they typed in didn't have a paid meter so they wrote a ticket. The plate the ticket is issued to isn't your plate, so I'm pretty sure you're safe and can ignore it. I think there's a way to look up parking tickets online if you wanna be extra sure.

I had a similar situation with a vanity plate. My old plate was xxxxxNA (Navy vet plate). They wrote a ticket for plate xxxxx - I ignored it. Never heard anything about it.

Maybe somebody took the ticket off their own car and put it on OP's car? Either way, sounds like it's not your problem OP. (also not legal advice)

Where was this at? Also can confirm since my friend works with them in the finance dept that there are no receipts to put on the dashboard so that doesnt even make sense

sceptic03 t1_iu1swwq wrote

Also if it doesnt match your plate, simply dont pay.

Probably an automated license plate reader that misread your plate. You should call them and explain what happenedYou have a record of the payment in the app, if they somehow associated the bad plate number with your vehicle you can contest it.

Also, dash receipts aren't used here. And when you call them, be nice. Calling them lazy and terrible at their job won't help you.

I called to contest, they said you can only do it online which I did.

Yeah good luck with the online thing. They didn’t even email me back

meresithea t1_iu40uz2 wrote

Same thing happened to me. I contested the ticket using the process outlined on the ticket and sent in screenshots of my parking receipt from the app, the emails I got saying I paid for parking and the texts I got sayin my parking session had started (I. Was. So. Mad.). The ticket got thrown out, so if you follow the process to contest the ticket you’ll be fine.

Edited for typos

Probably cuz their jobs are shitty and underpaid.

konsyr t1_iu6wh75 wrote

Their job serves no productive benefit to society and should be eliminated. (Along with the parking space.)

How close was it? I’ve known people to put THEIR ticket on someone else’s windshield in the hopes that the person just pays it without cross checking

The 4 digits are identical, the 5th digit is wrong and missing the 6th and 7th digit.

The people who work the parking authority are a bunch of miserable shits.

I don’t envy their job.

This spring I literally got a ticket while I was standing in line to pay at the kiosk in Schenley park. Luckily I got it overturned by providing evidence that I paid (even though I didn’t take my receipt). Still pissed me off pretty good.

Government job with a union making the employees untouchable. So much bureaucracy that when the people are fired they are still there for a year. Also that gives them time to appeal.

I recently had a ticket on my car for not having a permit in a permit parking area... outside my apartment that I mostly certainly have a permit for. Description of the car matched my car but upon looking at the license plate it was a completely different plate number no where close to mine. Additionally when I searched the plate online it was linked to a completely different brand of vehicle. I don't know how they messed up that bad, I definetely agree that the parking authority is generally just terrible at their jobs.

These people got those jobs through political connections. Skill wasn't a factor.

tesla3by3 t1_iu2byn4 wrote

Those are shitty jobs. No one is handling them out as political favors.

I say that because a friend who I know for a fact got a "shitty job" in the county office building because of political connections, told me he considered getting one of his sons a PPA job but the son ended up landing a job at a store instead.

tesla3by3 t1_iu2r8ng wrote

Ya kinda proved my point. The fact that getting a job at a store is more desirable is telling.

Sounds like they're doing pretty good at their job of giving tickets. Contest it and move on.

Here I thought their job was to write violations for people who try to not pay for parking or let their meter expire? I guess giving people who currently pay for their parking invalid tickets works too?

Well they don’t really hire people that are competent, they focus on people that are willing to deliver “justice”. They hire people that want to write tickets for people. They hire people who need the power that comes with writing a ticket for someone, so there’s no intelligence needed

Imagine if a cop got rejected from the academy. Cadet I guess. They still need to get their power fix, they can’t become a cop so they find another way to get their power fix.

Interesting-Stop-920 OP t1_iu1io2h wrote

I get that but they literally have a handheld device where they can put in somebody's license plate number and see if they have an active meter...just lazy...
