Looking for somewhere to meet up with a friend for coffee after work that is not a Starbucks, and has a sort of Gryffindor Common Room feel.

I understand that beggars can’t be choosers so I’ll also settle for an open local coffee place that is not “cozy” but has seating. Looking preferably for Lawrenceville but Shadyside could work too! Thanks in advance!

Butterwood is cozy and has Victorian kind of vibe. Their cake is also amazing if you haven’t had it. The Abbey also might work for you. Those are the only two places I can think of in Lawrenceville.

Coffee Tree Roasters on Walnut is pretty cozy and open until 8. You might also consider Margaux in East Liberty which is open most days until 11. It's a hybrid coffee shop/cocktail lounge but doesn't have a bar feel at all.

De Fer. I haven't personally been there, so I can't say what the feel is like but my friend goes there often and loves it.

Does Butterwood have tables to sit and work at a laptop, or just those big armchairs? I haven't been in there for years and can't remember. It is weirdly difficult to find a place to sit and work on a laptop with a beverage after 3ish anywhere in the northeast area of the city. Redhawk in Sharpsburg is perfect, but they close at 3 or 4.

Walnut Coffee Tree is open until 8 weekdays, and later weekends. I have heard they are considering extending those further. Pre-covid they were considerably later still, and were busy.

For ideal classic pgh vibes, Bloomfield yinz is open till 9. So few shops open late these days. I have started going to breweries if I want to sit around and work/draw/read etc at night but it’s not ideal :/
