You missed somebody making a stupid map to farm a ton of engagement.

This is exactly it. At least this has "pepperoni" for a lot of states, so it appears mostly real. It shows effort, even if it's all bullshit. I saw a map like this on Facebook recently that had every state's favorite burger place. As you can imagine, some In N Out's, some Shake Shacks.. and PA (along with a few other states) had a place not only that I had not heard of, but after doing a few minutes of research, found they didn't even have any locations in our state.

See, that's part of what makes me suspect it's not real.

Because if it were based on any real data, literally every state in the US is going to have pepperoni in the top spot.

I was about to say, I spent half my life in California. People really aren’t just running around crushing avocados constantly.

Ok-Twist921 t1_iydqd20 wrote

Same, we in the Bay Area used to crush this combo pizzas from round table tho, gimme all the linguica on a pizza. (Strip district meats has linguica!!!!)

ChazMurph t1_iye20b7 wrote

I used to love roundtable - they had one with a wine-based sauce and capicola...so good!

CARLEtheCamry t1_iyf8ect wrote

One guy I knew who lived in San Diego kept avocado trees. I imagine it's slightly more popular because it grows in that climate. But yeah, my grandma kept a cherry tree and it's not like PA is known for cherries

But avocado on pizza is so good tho? chipotle chicken avocado and bacon is the bomb

Ok-Twist921 t1_iyctpg8 wrote

Never had it! But I’m willing to try. Where would I find this around here?

2

DogTheBreadFairy t1_iyculti wrote

Well if you like flatbreads Panera has a Chipotle Chicken and Bacon Flatbread.

Just ask to add avacado to it or get an a la cart side of avacado to put on top. The avacado is good hot or cold!

Vast-Support-1466 t1_iyc73bx wrote

Hawaiians don't belong on pizza.

7

PGHNeil t1_iyckq41 wrote

See?

FWIW I first had Hawaiian pizza on my honeymoon in Honolulu. It even came on a little surfboard. Nothing made here in SW PA comes close though. I guess I’m chasing a memory

3

Excelius t1_iye8vgn wrote

I've had it a few times.

Not from a pizza shop, but it was a grocery store specialty frozen pizza (from a brand that I think no longer exists) that was Mexican-style street corn. So it had corn, diced green peppers, cotija cheese, some seasoning. It actually wasn't bad.

Regular pepperoni will always be my go-to, but sometimes an unusual specialty pizza is fun to have.

When I go to Japan, one thing I miss is American pizza. They put corn, mayonnaise, and potatoes on their pizza. Fucking nasty. I don't think I ever saw corn on pizza here in PA anyway.

RemoteImportance9 t1_iycoo3v wrote

The idea of potatoes on pizza doesn’t bother me but corn and mayonnaise have me raising an eyebrow.

1

kimbecile t1_iycx1az wrote

Mayonnaise?? My jaw dropped at that one

1

snugglelove t1_iyd1a61 wrote

Japanese mayo is different from American mayo.

5

kimbecile t1_iyd2l9e wrote

How so?

1

MikeyLikesItIronicly t1_iyd3d65 wrote

They yokes are included, American just has egg whites. It does affect the taste, but not that significantly. Japanese mayo is better IMO.

2

snugglelove t1_iyd4bbb wrote

There's also a vinegar difference, plus the MSG magic. Japanese mayo is definitely better and it goes on a lot of stuff.

3

tkast08 t1_iydc3u2 wrote

Close, American mayo uses the whole egg, usually. Japanese mayo only uses the egg yolks.

OllieFromCairo t1_iycyqzm wrote

There's a place in Ecuador called "Country Chicken al Horno" that makes, easily, a top 5 pizza I've ever had. The toppings weren't incredibly exotic, but the sauce had some local spice melange that was out-of-this-world.

Mayonnaise was an option though. They put mayo on EVERYTHING in Ecuador.

I doubt corn would make pizza bad because it's not an overwhelmingly different flavor, but why would you? You get nothing out of it. You take up spots you could put sausage on. Wasteful.
