I live near the border of Bloomfield and Shadyside, and will need to do car inspection for the first time since moving to Pittsburgh, sometime this january. I'm expecting and hoping that there won't be much to do, possibly just small things with brake pads or oil or whatnot, so I'm hoping to get out with the bear most minimum cost that I can. But in other places I've lived, I've had mechanics in car inspections recommend overpriced things to me that aren't necessary for inspection or safety, especially for a 2010 car, and I'm not well versed enough in cars to be able to tell the difference. Does anyone have a recommendation for a chain or non-chain auto shop that they would recommend for reasonably priced inspections? Preferably one that is a certified business, and not necessarily some guy working out of his garage.

Anyone that can issue an inspection sticker is a legit business. The biggest worry is them telling you need things done that aren’t required.

I have a car from 2009 and use Bastone in Shadyside. They have always been fair and explain any work that needs to be done. They’ve also been honest if the work is a nice-to-have or need-to-have

This is an embarrassing question to ask, but I've got a bit of anxiety when it comes to new auto shops so I've gotta suck it up here. If I go to them, do I pull up in front of their garage door or do I park on the street nearby? I'm not OP but this rec is great to have.

Not embarrassing at all! I pull up and park in the spots directly in front of their garage door if the spots are open. Otherwise I just park on the street. I’ve been going there for three years and they haven’t corrected either method :)

Walter's can be pretty booked up so if they are I would also suggest als motor works in polish hill. Very fair prices and quick service.

Lou Iezzi and Sons is where I’ve gotten inspections and had most, if not all, of my body work done when needed. Local shop run by Iezzi family. Never had issues with them trying to upsell.

In a bind, I once went to Mellon Street Garage and that was fine too but just a smaller, nondescript shop. Also no upsells.

I've been taking my 2000 Toyota Tacoma to Jim Anderson Auto on Centre near N Craig for 7 years now. He does good work at a fair price. I've never gotten the feeling that he was suggesting repairs that were not needed. Just my 2cents.

I always go to Goodyear, I got my car inspected in November and it was $70 (but nothing needed done, I just had my oil changed a month or so prior). They also sometimes have discounts if you check their website or sign up for texts!
