My husband and I are going to a Talking Heads cover band at Mr. Smalls on NYE. I’m looking for a restaurant in/around that area with good food and beer. Sort of a mid-range place, not ultra fancy where we can still get a reservation or walk in.

There aren't many dinner places in Millvale. I'd check if Grant Bar will be open that night

Yeah, the best closest bet is Lawrenceville, right across the 40th Street Bridge.

I forget the name and I think it is still open but the place in the old Moose Lodge over there is quite nice. I do believe it is BYOB

Two great breweries within walking distance of Mr Smalls with food or trucks: Strange Roots and Grist House. Also Iron Born pizza is great

Try bar3, the foods pretty good. Stay away from iron born though, people rave over it but its a $16 (minimum) 6 cut pizza thats meh at best.

not a lot of sit-down after 3pm restaurants in millvale, maybe get a bite in lawrenceville and then go over? the brewery’s might have food trucks, sidelines has good wings & a decent beer selection

The Mexican War streets aren't too far from Millvake or smalls by Pittsburgh standards. Monterey Pub will be open until 6pm (closing early), fits the bill you're looking for if you don't mind a short drive back over to Millvale. Honestly though I don't even know what in Millvale these days.
