So every time I check Verizon's website for FiOS availability, it says it's unavailable for my address. Well I checked a close-by residence and sure enough it's available.. So I googled whether Mount Washington has FiOS available and a post on this subreddit from 9 years ago popped up and somebody said they had it in Mount Washington. I live off Boggs Ave in an apartment complex. I'm curious if my landlord somehow banned them.

The only other options are Xfinity which their upload speeds are 5 megabits or less, or T-Mobile 5G Home Internet which I'm on now but basic features like port forwarding don't work and it occasionally goes out.

I tried their Live Chat and they just transfer me or don't give me a direct answer.

If you don’t have luck getting through to someone when you call, next time you’re out and about, stop by a Verizon wireless store - they can check for you even though they are separate from the home internet services.

Pretty sure if you are in the city its available. It only starts to become unavailable the further you move away from the city. Has to do with cost of the infrastructure vs population density.

I lived on Boggs in a small apartment complex when Fios was first coming to the neighborhood and there was a strange cut off based on the number of apartments in the building. I don’t clearly remember the details, but it was something like individual homes and apartment complexes with 8 or more units were first priority. My complex had 5 apartments and Verizon simply told us that this made us ineligible for the forseable future. This would have been around 2016/2017.

Ok disclaimer to those who downvoted, its not my place to call because I’m not the one leasing the place, my partner is, and we’re still relatively new as a couple. I was the one to help them get better internet because they had Xfinity which was really terrible. I asked them about calling in to see why it’s not available now this morning and they said they could.

If I was the one leasing, I would’ve called by now.

I think it has to do with whether or not there is a tenant-controlled location where the ONT can be mounted. There is only one fiber drop to each building, and Verizon has to use either the existing coax or phone cabling to get the signal to each apartment. This means that the ONT has to be mounted near the phone or CATV distribution blocks, which usually means that it would have to be powered by the house panel. Unless your landlord has an agreement with Verizon that approves this arrangement, they probably don't list your apartment has having service.

They started turning it on up there around 2013? The house I lived in (near Shiloh & Sycamore) got it in 2014. At the time it was pretty much being done street by street. Would see them hang the lines then a month or two later connect stuff up, then it would become available a bit after that.

Yeah that’s what says it’s not available but other houses on the same street have it and I’m trying to figure out why we don’t. My partner said he’s going to call later this week, but I read somewhere you can ask on the Verizon Direct forum on dslreports.com and an employee can find out for you so I’m hoping to find out one way or another. Thanks though.
