Anybody else here crazy enough to go to the Steelers Raiders game Christmas eve? I am trying to plan in advanced for the frigid cold.... The best idea I have right is stuffing myself with hot hands and hoping security let's me bring my thick blanket if I wear it as a cape. I'm guessing the clear bag rule is also still is place? Anyone with tips and tricks to surviving the cold, please help!

Former high school marching band member here: the best thing you can do is dress in layers. Wear at least 2 shirts, one being long sleeves, a hoodie and a coat. Wear at least two pairs of socks, the longer the better. and a pair of long Johns or leggings under your pants. Use the hot hands you mentioned and bring a hat, scarf and maybe two pairs of gloves. I think they still sell hot chocolate and coffee at certain concessions stands.

I too spent my teenage years sitting in the icy metal grandstands of many local high school stadiums.

And make sure the layers closest to your body are moisture wicking, either wool or something synthetic!

Phone book, if you can find one.

The main thing that makes you cold in the stadium is the floor. The concrete structure has an enormous thermal mass and it will leech every scrap of heat from your feet.

Putting your feet up on a phone book will slow the transfer down enough that you can spend all that time and your feet won't get too cold. You can pitch the phone book on your way out.

That large paperback book filled with ads that inexplicably shows up on your doorstep once every couple of years

A complete "Who's Who in Pittsburgh" in paperback. You don't need a battery to use it. It's crazy.

It's a book they used to print filled with murder coordinates

I spent years snow camping and we’d stand on foam sit pads to insulate us from the cold. worked wonders.

but just the plain cheapie blue ones you buy and cut yourself at a army/navy store works just as well. recommend!

Between the forecast, that it's Christmas Eve night, and that they're basically out of the playoffs. I'll definitely be intrigued to see how many people go to the game.

Do what real Steelers fans do and drink until you are numb, cold weather won't affect you.

I remember the Stadium Series Pens-Flyers game in Heinz Field a while back. I had gloves, hat, an extra layer. I thought I was prepared.

I was wrong. I never felt so cold in my life. Had to leave early because my wife was so cold she was in physical pain. I would definitely double-glove, triple-sock, long underwear, 3 layer minimum. Go full Randy Parker.

Hunting gear is your best friend in this weather, if not: cheap Walmart long johns, layers, bibs, and hat and gloves.

The same makers of hot hands make body warmer you stick to yourself also. It’s still gonna absolutely suck though, pray the wind isn’t bad.

Long John's, wool socks, ski bibs. Avoid cotton, it stays wet. Mittens > gloves. Hats n'at.

Dress in removable layers and take them off if you get too warm. If you sweat, it's game over.

Why game over if you sweat?

You really don't want you or your clothes to be damp when it's freezing out. It's a general "surviving the cold" tip. It's a common misconception to keep bundling through sweat since it's so cold out, but it's better to remove layers, even temporarily, to make sure you're cool enough not to sweat.

I got to go to the AFC Championship in '04 vs the Patriots when it was 11° out and the thing that helped most was moving. Hot chocolate was nice, but fleeting. Get up to cheer, keep a leg bouncing, etc. Get that body temp up.

Take a few copies of the Post-Gazette to stand on. It’s an old trick and that’s all that rag is good for these days anyhow.

Coldest recent game I can remember is the WC game against Miami. Two pairs of thick Sox, boots, 2 pair thermals top and bottom, skiing gloves, long sleeve, 2 sweatshirts, wool gator, and hat. Also about a 6 pack pregame. The most recent winter classic was about the same but don’t remember it being as cold as that Miami game.

I went for Christmas one year when it was super cold and shockingly with all those people around I wasn’t a bit cold. I just wore a normal sweatshirt winter coat and hat

So what you’re gonna wanna do is: starting with socks and underwear get your black and gold undies on cuz go lers. Then any old pair of socks will do. Next layer is your long johns and pj’s Top and bottom go ahead and tuck the long johns into those socks. And the shirt into the pj pants. Next you’re gonna take some plastic bags and a nice pair of wool socks. Put the bags over your socks and THEN take the wool socks pull them over the bags and your pj pants. Then throw on a sweatshirt and jeans. Your Favorite Lers jersey, sweatpants, jacket. Hat and gloves. Boots on your way aht the door. And don’t forget yer terrible tahl
