With the closing of Mr. Nice Guys on Friday, my favorite place to play Magic the Gathering is going away. Where's the best place for the game moving forward? Preferably I'd want a place where prerelease events are held.

Phantom of the attic in crafton has commander every Friday. Geek-a-drome does prereleases on Fridays and commander Saturday afternoons. Also, Black Lotus pizza in Lawrenceville does commander on Thursday, and New Dimension comics in the waterfront has a few different types of MTG over the weekend.

I will say phantom sucks. I went there a few years ago and we had to stand the entire event, prize support was trash, and the owner doesn't seem to enjoy hosting the events either. NDC or geekadrome for me

Check out game masters in the north hills!

They got a brand new location and are doing prerelease events and fnm.

Commander nights are wednesdays.

I don't play in-store as much as I used to, but some that come to mind are Legion in the North Hills and Taitan Game Shop/Fabricator's Forge in Coraopolis.

Legion and taitan are the two best imo

In person magic is pretty much dead. Good time to retire when your best product goes digital.

I wish Ron the best. There was nothing more awesome than midnight prereleases with 100 person tournaments :(

Paper magic is far from dead - just look at all the RCQs that really revived a lot of it. Or the NRG series.

I didn't really ask him what happened but I get the impression they never really recovered from the Covid hit. LGSs are horrendous to run profitably without a pandemic.

Answered your own question? Seriously though, my understanding is they were not comfortable turning their business into a superspreader event every week, so didn't have tournaments, and lost WPN status.

I have much respect for them holding true to their principles when that couldn't have been easy. I'd reckon that probably saved a few lives. This is a place of honor.

There's two places in Ross Township that might have that. There's not a lot of games stores left.

They play at the comic book store by Target in Homestead. Think it is called like New Demension or something.

I'm admittedly biased but I've been going to Game Masters in the Nirth Hills for over half my life and attend both FNM and Commander there. Would love to connect with you and get you hooked in if this isn't too far.

If you're looking for somewhere closer to Monroeville then New Dimension in the Waterfront or Phantom of the Attic are closer to that area and very highly regarded.

Besides Game Masters my personal favorite would be Four Horsemen in Robinson.

Geekadrome in Brookline has all prerelease and release events, has a very cozy atmosphere, and is welcoming.

Not MTG, but Eternal is a great digital card game very closely based on magic. You should check it out. I've played for a few years now.

We're getting a new set in January, so things will be very fresh for everyone when it drops.

The game is very free to play friendly. This coupled with working very well on mobile makes it my go to game. I only spend Google play money on it that I get from Google surveys and at this point, I can craft anything I want.

The draft format let's you keep your cards and earn gold by winning. It's very lucrative if you're good.
