You gave them way too much daylight. Gotta get right next to the car to box people out.

Seriously, I don't know what it is about the strip that turns people into this. I used to work for a company down there and would occasionally have to work weekends. I hated coming out to people walking into the street in front of your car and traffic blowing through stop signs. I was glad to get out of there.

To be fair, the strip probably would not survive with out them.

That said, gtfo Penn ave if you can’t confidently parallel park every time. Find a garage. The one above that duck pin bowling whatever place always has spots on the roof and it’s like $3.

I doubt it. I have (reluctantly) had to go to the Strip on the weekends. Store absolutely packed with people, no one in the check out line. I usually go weekly on Wednesdays, it's much saner.

Honestly, I’m not giving the white pickup ANY credit, but when you queue over a car length’s behind the exiting vehicle, it’s hard to distinguish if you’re taking the space or just pulled over to the side waiting, even if you have your signal on. People do the latter all the time in the strip.

I would bet money this person just wants to grab "a couple" things.

A couple meaning - running into 4 stores and 25 things later.

This is basically ALL of the East End nowadays. Suburban visitors rushing in to a shop and parking however & wherever they want.

17

ScrumGuz t1_j1u19lg wrote

They definitely view bike lanes as free parking daily

7

Fiesta412 t1_j1ue9q1 wrote

Yup. Bike lanes, in front of your driveway, conjestest the alleys... It just continues all the way down to Garfield. And even that area is starting to get a lot of " the weekenders"

"Weekenders- Those who come & visit on the weekends, evenings, or bop in a shop and feel entitled to do whatever they feel like. Typically the further from the city they live, the worse the entitlement gets.

4

ScrumGuz t1_j1uglpt wrote

I started an ig (@bikelaneparking) of my daily loop less than a month ago of taking pictures of them on my daily loop and average about 5 per ride. Twice I have interacted with city cops that have just shrugged it off.

Reporting them with dashcam for your bike app (@dashcambike) is really the only effective way to for pgh DOMI to get a picture of how bad it is. You don't need to be on a bike to report it. And it automatically feeds into the Pittsburgh DOMI database.

But yeah the drivers in this city have really become progressively worse this winter in the "just gonna be a few minutes" leaving their car double parked in the road, bike lane, or in a loading zone etc. And it's almost always on Penn Avenue or Smallman in the strip. Negley and Brighton are two other really bad spots as well.

Fiesta412 t1_j1vsq3u wrote

A serious tradgedy is about to happen w drivers doing whatever they want. Racing through the residential areas to find free parking and then leaving after having a few. I've seen many cars hit cars.

I witnessed a couple w a child try to cross Butler at the lightless crosswalk last Friday. 3 cars actually sped up rather than let them cross safely. Finally a car from each (edit) *direction stopped and let them cross. Its scary that bikers and pedestrians are not safe in their own neighborhoods. Or even those coming to visit.

I know this isn't an F150, but F150's are the most sold truck, and many owners of trucks seem to act like this. Whether it is speeding crazily on various roads or just generally being dicks, the F150 Gang can be pretty obnoxious. Seemingly taking over for BMW drivers in roadway entitlement.

Never drove in Berlin, but it can't be as bad as Paris was. I'm in Abu Dhabi right now and Abu Dhabi is also worse than Pittsburgh, but not too much worse.

Mostly its the roundabouts that irritate. Not the roundabout itself, but the fact that I seem to be the only person in the entire country who knows how roundabouts work. Like a gun in the innermost lane of the roundabout deciding he wants to exit to the outermost lane of one of the exits so he cuts across two lanes of traffic at the exit and barely misses people who are still moving.
