i definitely recommend hobbies! that’s how you make friends you have things in common with. there’s lots of sports pick up leagues, there’s poetry readings, there’s jazz nights. pick niche nights at bars, like trivia night or queer night if you’re lgbt. the best way to go in my opinion is to take this opportunity figure out what you actually like to do. trying to make friends for the sake of making friends can make it really hard to find authenticity. lastly, finding and doing things you’re interested in makes you more interesting and easier to find real connections.

Don’t focus on trying to make friends. Find some things you enjoy doing for their own sake and if you are lucky you will meet people who enjoy the same thing.

Board game groups are perfect for that.

Just show up at your local game store and ask people what they're playing and if you could join in.

Go play magic the gathering on a friday night, have someone teach you how to play.

EventBrite and MeetUp groups and outings might work. Speed Friending, hiking or biking meetups, hobby, craft, art, film groups.

Volunteer somewhere, join a club related to a hobby you enjoy.

Hobbies.

You are not terribly far from some ski slopes, why not get some used gear and give it a go.

In the 3/4 of the year, get a cheap dual sport moto and join the riding group on Facebook, always people looking to meet there.

Do you like running? City of Bridges Run Club and Fleet Feet both have shortish runs during the week and longer runs on the weekend. They’re good for all skill levels and you can choose how much or little to interact with your fellow runners.

It’s hard to make new friends. 🥺 I’m kind of sociable but I’ve done it by going to bars I feel comfortable in and by socializing a lot at work. Your stuck with these people 8 hours a day so might as well get to try to know some of them. You’re always welcome to message me on here !
