I want to thank all of the people (mostly Pitt students, I think) who stopped to check on me after I passed out and face-planted on the sidewalk outside of Hillman Library on Thursday night. I was lucky and grateful to have so many people stop to help me and especially for Kim the nurse who started taking care of me even before the EMTs arrived.

The ER doctors ruled out all major health issues that could have caused me to pass out, and I didn’t break anything or have a concussion. It was likely just fainting from dehydration. I’m going to be ok. Thank you everyone ❤️

Edit: the doctors also mentioned stress as a cause. The comments note the importance of avoiding dehydration, but try to avoid stress out there, too!

My son passed out, and face planted. Broke his nose and needed several stitches. They guessed he must have been dehydrated, HE HAD A STROKE.

This is horrifying! I hope he is ok now. The doctors seemed to give me a full checkup, and I had no signs of stroke (like slurring speech, trouble lifting an arm or walking etc) so I’m hoping I’m still good haha

Dehydration is no joke. Couple of weeks ago, I woke up feeling dizzy and generally not well. Went back to bed and woke up still not feeling great. Finally realized that I hadn’t drank water in a couple days. A friend mentioned that her hot yoga teacher said we feel less thirsty in the winter and have to force ourselves to drink - made total sense. A good trick to keep track of how much you’re drinking is to use a water bottle and decide how many you want to drink per day. Put that number of rubber bands around the neck and remove one each time you finish a bottle. You won’t have to worry about forgetting how many bottles you’ve drank.

This is like what I do. I have to watch due to some surgeries I’ve had. I have a big ass bottle that holds the minimum I need to drink in a day which helps me make sure I get enough. For workouts, I grab a bottle of water to drink during the workout so that it is an extra infusion of water.
