The folks you’re looking for don’t go to “cool bars”. They go to the corner bar that opens at 10am and still allows smoking.

Those guys will be heading over to Riggs about now... Don't worry about catching them, they'll be there all day and tomorrow too.

They are the true Yinzers. Forget about Steeler fans or whatever. Show me the guys who are at the bar at 10:30am on Christmas Day. They’re the real deal, no posturing or fakeness there.

Try 7am, lol. I remember finishing Night Shift and waiting for Jacks to open. By 9-10 am it was packed

ScratchMoore t1_j5prm40 wrote

I was purposely skipping Jacks and similar ones. I was thinking of DeCarlos in Bridgeville or Kimmies in Castle Shannon or something else like that. The dingy neighborhood places

This is pretty goddamn cringe of a post.

How? It sounds like a person trying to find a new hangout with people whom they feel like they share something in common

PierogiPowered t1_j5onwrn wrote

Look at the other replies. They're all stereotyping that blue collar people only go (can only afford?) to dive bars and greasy spoons.

Wide-Concert-7820 t1_j5pdg8g wrote

Just curious... Have you been to any of the establishments mentioned here?

1

PierogiPowered t1_j5rfp14 wrote

Yeah. I’ve been to a bunch of city of Pittsburgh dive bars. I wouldn’t classify any of them as blue collar.

As op clarified, unpretentious is a much better description.

UnaffiliatedOpinion t1_j5qpl67 wrote

To me, it reads a like an outsider who wants to surround themselves with blue collar folk for the "authentic Pittsburgh experience," but maybe I'm just cynical.

The Hanger out in Moon used to be for 3rd shift airport workers. They'd get off at like 7AM and that's when their night would start, and the place kept opposite hours of what you would expect.

Now, it's a rebuilt square cinderblock building with a plane out front that serves brunch on Sunday.

cityfireguy t1_j5oinv2 wrote

Ooof, that hurts. Grew up in Moon, haven't been there in many years.

I put the black diamond point inlay of a pool cue straight thru the palm of my hand on a break there once. In and out hand was stuck to the stick. Bartender had to cut me off it with a steak knife. True story.

Lol 90% of Pittsburgh bars are hole is the walls which is exactly what you're looking for.

Find a local bar and go around 3 PM, earlier if it's raining.

What makes it a Blue Collar bar? Do they check your boot straps & see if you can pick yourself up by them at the door? This post is dumb, Pittsburgh is a diverse city & I've seen blue collar folks at every type of bar around here.

Instead of isolating maybe open up to people you may think you don't have a lot in common with? Chances are you do.

lifes_nether_regions t1_j5twppz wrote

I think they mean the kinda bar that is a beer and shot bar. The tap list consists of Iron, Iron Light, Miller, Coors, and if they want to be fancy, Yuengling. The most exotic cocktail is going to be a Jack and Coke or Captain and Coke. The music is just DVE on the radio and the only time it gets turned down is during the evening lottery. It will have a pool table and poker machines.

Neighborhood pubs and taverns are always a good place to find blue collar folks after work. A lot of beer and shot bars like that are actually really cool in that they have really “Pittsburgh” heavy vibes and they’ve been around forever. Tons of history to be explored. Good luck on your search.
