Does Anyone Remember Periwinkles Comedy Club?

Periwinkles was a comedy club in the Arcade in Providence back in the 80s.

I've heard local comics talk about it, but I've never been able to find any pictures. Does anyone have any pictures of the old club or even a fun/interesting story about going there?

Yes I saw Frank Santos the R rated hypnotist there back in the early 1990s. He hypnotized a group of women out for their wedding shower and had the bride-to-be make out with a complete stranger. When she came to she threatened that her future husband would find him and “beat him up”. He put her under again quickly using a key word and she went back to making out with him again.

I once watched him hypnotize a dozen people to give the audience lap dances. When everyone came to they were just pulling cash out of their underpants.

I love how he was universally known as the R Rated hypnotist. Today, he would be known as the guy who got canceled in about 90 seconds. Seasons change. He was an excellent performer and very much of his time.

Maybe trying to reaching out whoever runs the ri comedy museum place at the park cinema, idk how active the place is but it looks like it was renovated from whatever it was before, also for whatever it’s worth I’m fairly sure Marc Maron references it in his book waiting for the punch
