Stop speeding.

33mph is 8 over if the speed limit is 25. Just shy of 25% over the limit.

Those speed cameras are enough to make me reconsider what business I visit in EP. And I would damm sure never live anywhere near one. EP muni government should be ashamed of themselves for a disgusting money grab.

It was my understanding that the cameras are only in school zones. I believe they have posted signs that the speed limit is 20mph during school hours.

I live in EP. Been driving 20 years never had a ticket. Got one in the mail for doing 35 at 3:57pm. The cutoff was 4pm.

35 mph at 3:57 pm…. With no school in sight….no real Tickets in 20 years…You clearly are an absolute savage with no regard for the safety of others...

It’s a money grab… They take a concept that at face value makes sense… don’t speed in a school zone…and then bend the crap out of it to make more $.

Folks should have voted for John Rossi who was against the cameras last fall. SMH

Last session, East Providence asked the state to unlink speed cameras from school zones.

By my last count, East Providence only has five speed camera locations.

>3070 Pawtucket Ave. at St. Mary Academy Bay View

>2680 Pawtucket Ave. at Kent Heights School

>179 Forbes St. at Riverside Middle School

>42 Bishop Ave. at St. Margaret School

>2000 Pawtucket Ave. at East Providence High School

I got one the other day, speed limit dropped from 30 to 20. I was going 35 and got a ticket. Ridiculous. It's just a way to milk out more money, I'd like to see the calibration on those cameras to prove they are correct in matching people speed.

Whenever I see those damn cameras, I don't go beyond 25 because I can't chance it.

OP, you shouldn't be driving 33 mph in a 20 mph school zone.

What do you think your letter is going to accomplish?

Yeah, "only in school zones" and "during school hours" makes it all seem sooo rational. The reality is try driving 20mph. It is incredibly, unnaturally slow and 15mph below the normal posted limit of 35mph. Second, it's not just during opening and dismissal, it's all day long, even when no children are anywhere around. And finally, the whole program is administered by a private company who installed the equipment. You send your "fine" to them and they pocket the majority of the revenue as profit and only pass on a small fraction to the city. This is obscene public policy in the guise of children's safety.
