Have some friends coming to visit this weekend with their son. Was wondering if it would be worth going to.

It's not the most spectacular thing, but worth seeing. You'll get all the politicians, clergymen, and various local marching bands.

As long as there are fire engines and lots of bagpipes and drums is a good st paddy’s day parade if it’s lacking it just ain’t right. How is it in this department

Yeah exactly, wondering same thing. I figure trekking down to Newport would be more hassle than it's worth.

It’s a sh*t show. Brings out the true spirit of the locals - puking in the streets and nips everywhere. Great for family photos!

I love the parade! It's super local and almost feels small town-ish. All the important local and state politicians are there. There's a wide variety of performers - Irish pipers, drum bands, but also groups from non-Irish backgrounds who live in Smith Hill. Usually there is candy & some freebies thrown out for kids. Keep in mind that this is a St. Patrick's Day parade, so it's a day drinking affair for a lot of people, especially around Patrick's Pub.
