Hey there. I went to grade school in Cumberland & middle/high school in Providence, moved to Brooklyn after college. If the title sounds like you or someone you know, DM me.

On March 3rd this year, I was going to move my car when a guy pulled up and said "I just saw you get hit." My front left side was caved in, guy said it was a red sedan that peeled off but parked down the block. I walked down, sure enough, red Buick with damage to the front right side — and plates removed, probably stolen. Didn't want to hang out and get into it with a car-stealing type of guy, so went back to my car and waited for NYPD. Two hours later, cops show up: surprise, they're not in the mood for paperwork and ignore that the probably-stolen car that hit me is 50 yards away ("you didn't see it happen, can't help you"). I get the bare minimum out of them for the insurance claim.

Anyways, was back in that area the other day and saw the Buick still there. Checked the inspection sticker sticker, it's Rhode Island. Figured I'd throw this up here in the off chance I can get someone's car back. DM me with the license plate and I'll give you the cross-streets and my phone number. If anyone reading this has brighter ideas about who to call about this (it sure isn't NYPD), let me know.

I’d call 311 and report an abandoned vehicle. They can tow the car, and maybe run the VIN.

You could probably run the vin for a title report or registration location if you pay for Carfax reports

Definitely not my car but I'm spooked because I was born on 3/3 and also grew up in Cumberland, now living in Providence. Small world.

Sorry you said plates were removed but then you say that you checked the registration (how?) and then say for potential owner to DM you the plate number. Really confused, did they put plates back on the car?

Cops lol

I really don't know what they do. Don't solve crimes, don't do paperwork, just seem to sit around and conduct racially motivated traffic stops while whining how unfair the world is to them.

I hear you. Thought about it, I don't know how long (few minutes, few seconds) there was between my car getting hit and me getting there. So if we managed to pull camera footage (this went down in front of a school) and it was evident I didn't see it happen, that might bite me in the ass.
