Thinking of moving to Providence, RI from the West Coast. Loved the Blackstone-Hope neighborhood but it’s expensive AF. Love that vibe with the cute downtown w/restaurants and a little green space (we have a doggo). Any ideas for neighborhoods like that in/around Providence that may be slightly more affordable? Thank you.

The West End is very walkable and a great neighborhood but is quickly becoming very expensive, Elmwood is less expensive but also a bit further removed from downtown. Both have decent public transit connections though and they both have major green spaces, Dexter Training Ground and Roger Williams Park respectively.

Without being too shitty, your requirements are pretty common, there should be some posts to check out if you search.

The problem you will have is course is that most places which meet your desires cost about the same. There aren't any cheap hidden gems anywhere anymore.

Elmhurst is less expensive and has a similar vibe to Hope but not the same great village that Hope has. Smith Hill is near downtown and less expensive and has some basic food options but is a little sketchier and less green than Hope.

I love Edgewood/Pawtuxet village area.. a quick drive downtown, the village is a great little area. Lots of parks/water access

Look a little further down Hope past the Pawtucket line in Oak Hill? If you stay west of East Ave. (i.e. what Hope becomes in Pawtucket) there’s still some housing that isn’t outrageously expensive if you’re willing to put in some improvements. Also still walkable to Lippitt Park and some restaurants.

It's not as cute or as clean, but the Elmwood section of Providence is much more affordable.
