I've seen these fuckers just smashing a person's car as they were inside horrified waiting for a red light.

I'm not usually for showing force but if police want to go for a full crackdown on ATVs I'm for it. It's getting out of control.

Agreed: it's not gotten to "Clockwork Orange" level yet -- but def heading there if it's not stopped

If I can get an $85 ticket for going 31 in a 25 by a camera… you should be fined like $10,000 for riding an ATV or dirt bike on the street.

And have your license revoked and ATV destroyed (I think that’s already happening).

I would bet money none of the operators of those vehicles give a flying fuck about their license status.

It's a difficult problem to crack down on because they have such a huge advantage. ATV & Dirt Bikes are small and maneuverable and go places the cruisers can't. They know that, so if a cop tries to pull them over, these idiots immediately just gun it making it far more dangerous for literally everyone involved. I'm not 100% sure about Providence, but many cities have a pursuit policy preventing pursuits of motorcycles because its so dangerous. None of them are registered vehicles so the cops can't just back off and cross reference registration to arrest them afterwards.

And its also a number issue- these groups have dozen of riders and there are only so many police officers.

IMO, the best solution to me would to do an undercover sting operation. Or create a bounty system encouraging citizens to snitch on people they know are participating in these groups. But that's just my idea, idk how practical it is.

More operations like this are unfortunately in order because of the inability to ethically hit bike and atv riders with cruisers to control them as we would do with 4+ wheel covered and belted vehicles. Officers on the ground must put their lives at risk to corner a biker, and then be ready to shoot said biker if the biker tries to drive through them on the illegal vehicle.

I tried to report this to the mayor’s office via the 311 app and was told the only way the city handles these people is via the cops. Go get ‘em I guess.

What is it with the amount of these things in PVD? Is it because they’re cheaper than cars, easier to store, less regulated, all of the above? Always see these stories but out of the loop as to the reason why they’re everywhere

It is not a Providence thing. Many cities face the exact same issue. Google a city (Boston, Philly, Baltimore, Miami, New York, Newark, Buffalo to name a few) and ATV or Dirt Bike. You will find news stories about the same kind of incidents.

charliekwalker t1_je2009a wrote

This has been a ongoing issue for over twenty years in and around PVD.

Oh no, these poor youths need the state to build them an ATV track (maybe right next to one of our fine state funded shoot up centers) so they can express their ‘culture’ /s

We literally have a white supremist chapter in this fucking state. Take a wild guess what political spectrum they're on.
