Hey folks! I'm looking to move to Providence in the next couple of years and am currently living in Latin America. Do you know of a good place to dance things like tango, samba, forró, and salsa there? I'm down to take any recommendations for good music and nightlife stuff here. Thanks!

While we’re on the subject, any dance studios or trainers good enough to teach ballroom dancing would be appreciated as well.

Half of Providence's population is Latin American but most night spots are lounges and hookah bars, where little dancing takes place. The Latin dance clubs are fun and predominantly Dominican, so it's mostly reggaeton, bachata, and merengue playing there. A little salsa, but not much. There are a handful of salsa dance groups that hold events and lessons here. There's also a group called Providence Tango, located in nearby Pawtucket, that holds regular events and lessons. And a place in Somerville, MA (about an hour away) called Boston Tango that is very popular and hosts fun milongas. The Boston metro area is teeming with Brazilians, so you should have no trouble finding great options for that scene.

There's a huge Latino population (mostly Caribbean and Central American) and lots of clubs on the South Side and in Central Falls where you can dance salsa, merengue and bachata. As for more formal dance studio type stuff I don't know anymore (haven't lived in PVD for awhile)

Where are you living? I spent 10+ years in South America and miss it so much. Also looking for the Latin dance scene!

Oh that would be so cool. Best I can offer you is a transplant from Uruguay but I'm 200% down for that.

I'll definitely check this out. Actually, I'll be there for like a week in December, so that might be a good time to stake the place out. Thank you!

AS220 Dance Studio might be a place to look. A friend took lessons there a few years ago.
