I am in the process of switching to natural gas and they may not be able to dig my main line and put my meter in before winter. I currently have no heat in my home and a newborn on the way so a bit of last minute panic as I thought this process would be completed by now. Any recommendations on renting a propane tank to run my system for the winter until rienergy figures their schedule out. (I’m on the Providence/Johnston border, and yes my system can run off both just never had to rent a tank this size)

Just a quick note: yes, you say the system can run off either fuel, but just make sure there isn’t some conversion that is necessary first.

Because propane operates at much higher pressure than natural gas, it uses smaller orifices. Using natural gas with propane orifices results in a weak/inoperable system, using propane with natural gas orifices can result in explosion.

If it's a rienergy job call them again and tell them you have a baby on the way. They prioritize jobs with the elderly and young children first

I have 3-5 times a week since august when the application was approved for the gas connection. I even wrote a letter of non financial hardship to explain the urgency with a newborn on the way. There is ZERO transparency in the company or information as to when they will dig the line. If I don’t call and basically beg for a dig date they just leave me on read. They’ve given me two dates both have long come and gone. Still no gas line.

Hopefully that helps others reading this. But completely irrelevant to the question asked. I’m aware of the differences and tried to avoid the unhelpful comments as I already have the conversion adapter and a licensed plumber doing the work.

Umm. Thank you for the update?

Also, this is demonstrably false:

Here’s an actual irrelevant comment, for comparison:
