What a stupid comment from RIDOT. “Whatever you do, keep your speed. We don’t care if it doesn’t feel safe.”
Screw that. If it feels safer to slow down, I’m slowing down.

Cardboard box on the other side of the highway? Everyone slow down and look at it!!!

RIDOT is gonna change those orange signs to read "DON'T BE A PUSSY"
Traffic engineering is such a joke

Actually, they're slowing down because that's the law and they don't want to kill a poor soul changing a tire. If you're not slowing down a little for someone in the breakdown lane, you're a moron or a sociopath.

So for future reference: Slow down. If you're in the lane closest to the disabled vehicle, try to move to the next lane. If you can't because of traffic, that's fine. Just make sure you're going slow relative to the normal speed. If you're in lanes that aren't adjacent to the breakdown, you should still slow down to allow for lane changes or swerves.

So... tire changer in the breakdown lane, 95 South in Cranston. I'm in the high speed lane, light traffic. What do you suggest? 12? 15 mph for me?
420foreverandalways t1_ixeca0f wrote
This is drivers ed stuff. If someone is in the breakdown lane, slow down. Light traffic in the passing lane? Yeah, you should still go like 5-15mph slower than what you were doing before. IMO 65-70mph would be ok in that situation. If you're going 90 in that situation, you're an asshole. It's just a common courtesy to another human in a dangerous position.

Can’t wait for this to go until 2026. By then Im sure they’ll find something else on 95.

RIDOT ain't paying my insurance premium if something were to happen so I am going to kindly log that silly bit of advice away where it belongs.

Whole lot of comments from people who will slow down from 75mph in the far left lane to 20mph, and cut across to the right lane at the last second, and then blame RIDOT.

Didn’t they fix up 195 4 or 5 years ago from 114 into Providence? I remember driving through it all the time. I thought they did the bridges and Gano st exit too. Oh and the linear park. Now I’m on the other side of the city dealing with 6/10 construction every day.
the_falconator t1_ixf9sva wrote
slowing down makes it less safer for everyone
TheSausageFattener t1_ixfahvt wrote
They did half the bridge, now theyre doing the other half

And just causes a cascading effect of everyone behind having to slow down and what causes a lot of traffic jams when there is no accident.

Since this has gone in traffic has been absolute horeshit. Who the fuck thought this was a good idea to start one biggest travel week of the year... oh yeah the drunk uncle that runs RIDOT planning.
Mass/Boston put all construction projects that would be impacting to drivers at the end of last week lasting through the holiday weekend... Rhode Island said hey.... hold my beer.

This has made traffic the absolute worst I’ve ever seen it heading into Providence from seekonk/East Providence. It’s better to just avoid the high way all together I can’t imagine what it would be like in the event of an accident or emergency vehicles trying to get through.
Silentjosh37 t1_ixfmsm0 wrote
Yesterday morning... hours after the accident was cleared the traffic was backed up well into Swansea. Causing an hour long+ ride.
Combine this with all the stuff they see doing on 95 near the mall and the clusterfuck that is 146 and 6/10 every artery connected to Providence has a massive project going on. As well as changes to every alternate route. Can't avoid 195 properly as they have closed a small bridge that cuts off the only viable alternate route. This 195 project should have been worked on at the same time as the overpasses were being done. Instead they fucked up traffic for two years, let it be for six months then started working in the same area again.
Someone needs to start reviewing what is going on.
Edited to add: there is also major construction going on over on the red bridge as well.

I didn’t think traffic could get worse than everyone changing lanes last minute at the NY/Boston split.
Now everyone changes lanes last minute but with ✨concrete obstacles✨

lmao good infrastructure and design. Confused? Feel unsafe? Well whatever you do DONT SLOW DOWN.
This state needs more alternatives to relying on cars and highways.
