Try machining out! I went into it after highschool and ive liked it alot. The floor for entry is relativly low and there are a decent amount of businesses around here. Some companies are crappy but others are good, but once you some experiance and are confident in your abilities you will kind of have your choice of what you want to do because every manufacturer needs good machinists to make things.

Hi, I cannot highly enough recommend the pipe trades: plumber/pipefitter as an option. You'll start out at about $20/hr, which is not terrible... as a journeyman, I'm making $50+

Health care? Yup. Not out of pocket.

Annuity (401K)? Yup. Not out of pocket. (although I can contribute $6 matched)

Pension? Yup. (Local and national)

Just sayin... worth looking into. I'm here if you have questions.

Again I'll suggest EB. They pay for and send you to training for a few weeks if you're an apprentice, as they are trying to rapidly expand at the moment

Apprenticeship, in the sense that they will make you forget everything you've ever learned, and teach you how to build subs their way. No matter what, you can walk in the door and make a decent starting wage based off of your experience

Do you have any manual machining experience? I’ve been looking for one for a while, they get snatched up quick.

Check out apprenticeship.gov. They have a job finder tool

Also reach out and see what programs CCRI or other community colleges are currently running and what employers are working with them: https://www.ccri.edu/workforce/index.html

Also the DLT for Rhode island posts open apprenticeship listings.

Best of luck!

Not a great time. New administration means layoffs and hiring freezes. There are no training programs either.

Apply to General Dynamics Electric Boat. They teach people everything from the ground up. If you’re a competent, stable candidate they’re a wonderful company.

Show up in front of Home Depot at 5 AM. If you can speak english you will be 1st string. Don't blow your reputation by being lazy or you will have to move to another HD. Don't accept anything less than $200/day even when the illegal next to you will work @ $120.
