The first mass-produced coffee syrup was introduced by the Silmo Packing Company of New Bedford, Massachusetts, in 1932.

It was the BEST. Autocrat comes close, but when you grew up on Silmo you KNOW.

They stopped making it over 20 years ago, but now it's back baby!

As a true Rhode Islander, you have to accept the fact that Silmo was the OG.

If you can't tell, I'm hyped to get some Silmo again and see if it hits all the nostalgia buttons :)

Yes, I'm aware this may be a controversial take here in pvd - but most ya'll probably not even old 'nuff to know.

Never heard of it. I used to smack my lips on Eclipse. It sucks now.

It's very easy to make your own, although you might be disgusted by how much sugar you need to use to get it close to the bottled stuff. I do 2:1(by volume) sugar to concentrated coffee and it ends up being a little less sweet than Autocrat and about the same as Dave's. (16.7g/oz)

.... if you actually like current day Eclipse, than probably not. To me, that's the worst option. I rank them as follows:

  1. Silmo
  2. Autocrat
  3. Dave's

... big gap...

... 4. Eclipse

There are some other lesser known brands out there that fall somewhere after Autocrat for me, but those are the major players afaik.
