Bartender at Chomp went down the whole beer list in agonizing detail when taking our drink order and then audibly groaned when I ordered a 'gansett.

dgroach27 t1_j42ag92 wrote

Hell yeah. I love some nicer beer every now and then but with a burger you can't go wrong with a 'gansett.

Does it bother you too that the brewery doesn't have regular 'gansett?

13

f1rehead t1_j42d830 wrote

It does, but it's because the law says they can only serve beers they make onsite and they don't make the lager at the brewery.

13

degggendorf t1_j46776s wrote

But that's only because they went for the easier taproom license, rather than the harder/expensiver full bar license, right? Or is it actually impossible to serve both brewed and bought drinks in the same location?

1

phill0406 t1_j42dklu wrote

Its because the lager is brewed in Rochester NY. The beer you drink at the brewery is made there.

StonksGuy3000 t1_j42v35h wrote

Tbf, I feel like the groan was called for

GoxBoxSocks t1_j42zjmq wrote

In all honesty I agree. Their beer list is pretty well curated I just prefer simple lagers. It was just a funny moment.

Also if I'm spending +$8 on a bev, it's going to be wine or a cocktail.

2

DazeKaze t1_j44cz0x wrote

8 dollars will get you two buck chuck wine or a high class beer. I always found it weird the people that think wine in all forms is better than beer.

2

Low-Medical t1_j452d68 wrote

I mean, why have 'Gansett on the menu if you're going to act appalled when someone orders it? Just take it off the menu and do craft beer only.

2

StonksGuy3000 t1_j47rprt wrote

I think it’s nice to offer a cheaper option for people, but it deserves at least a sarcastic groan when someone is considering the full list and then opts for a ‘Gansett

1

Low-Medical t1_j48ah67 wrote

They should put it in a separate section of the menu, then. Have a main drink section titled "Craft Beer Selections", and then another section titled "Fine, Here's Some Swill for the Unwashed Masses" with Narragansett underneath

1

StonksGuy3000 t1_j48rsfu wrote

I’m fine with this proposal. Let’s pitch it to Chomp

2

Tortankum t1_j432orp wrote

Anyone that orders a gansett not for the express purpose of getting drunk on the cheap is a psycho in my books.

I often find the best burgers are served in places that don't spend a lot on the decor

37

HotConcrete t1_j41mnhc wrote

I’m confused by this. I just checked their website and their burgers are 15-18 bucks and come with fries or greens. I don’t have a dog in this fight but that seems pretty standard for a sit down place.

So, my house?

2

DazeKaze t1_j41rsia wrote

I just went on their menu and their house burger comes with bacon, cheese, special sauce & fries for $15 dollars.

It's 2023 and we're still making fun of "hipster burgers". Let me guess you're also mad about "millennials"?

McDonald's Quarter Pounder with Bacon meal costs 14.58.

I'm a millennial, I think millennials and Gen z are great. It was a light hearted joke but mostly I feel their quality doesn't justify their price and they are in general more expensive than other burger joints. Sorry I hit a nerve.

Love Chomp. Not ashamed to call it my favorite restaurant in the city. Delicious sandwiches and burgers, and incredible wings. Yes it's a little pricey but honestly what isn't these days.

Diligent-Pizza8128 t1_j424fga wrote

Also, their house burger is $15 WITH fries. Maybe not a bargain but not “$22.50 without a side”

Alternative-Bat-8453 t1_j41ffs9 wrote

Chomp on Ives did pay my friend to have hand painted signs of old Ives street businesses done, which was a nice touch, but I agree the prices are wild and Ives street needed more hometown spots instead of hipster appeal.

I also appreciate the they kept the Eagle Mart sign up! That was a nice touch.

Craft burgers and brew is ligit. Now that Bun Fun has closed, Craft is my favorite burger joint. Their brunch is great too. The mimosas and bloody Marys are served out of pitchers!

It's awful.

I go to chomp a lot. there "home made" ketchup is terrible. I always ask for real ketchup and the waiters or waitresses always chuckle in agreement how no one likes it. but there ranch on the other hand is amazing.

1

Low-Medical t1_j452mgm wrote

Do they make their own? Ketchup is one of those interesting food products where the "artisanal" version is actually inferior to standard Heinz or whatever

0

Mountain_Bill5743 t1_j48xoku wrote

Yeah I had it a long time ago and I can't recall what was wrong with it (like cane sugar or vinegary or what) but it was intense and pungent.

A year later I can't remember the burgers, but I remember the terrible ketchup and it really encourages me to go elsewhere.

McDs and 5 Guys are better than that place. The original in Warren was over priced 10 years ago when it opened. Gotta say the rustic-industrial look is getting sooo played out.
