can anyone tell me what the crowd is like at askew? there’s some live music going on there this friday night that i plan on going to, but none of my friends are really into the style of music so i plan on going solo. it’s been a long time since ive attended live music alone, i’ve only ever done it in places where it’s a little easier to blend in with a big crowd like austin nashville and NOLA.

from what i can see this venue is fairly small, but looks cozy and nice. is it somewhere where a 23 year old female would feel safe going alone? it doesn’t look divey or sketchy from what i can see but i would love to hear some opinions on people who have been to shows there before. thank you so much in advance!

Askew is, in my opinion, one of the most inclusive places you can go alone. And the staff knows it, and takes their responsibility very seriously in keeping it that way. Some of the live local shows aren't the best talent wise, but that's an important part of the music scene in all cities.

Side note - I had the opportunity to work with the owners in a past job and can't speak highly enough about them. If anyone were to bother you, I can confidently say the owners would have your back and ensure you feel safe while you're in their space.

Askew is an awesome small venue and totally fine to go alone. I’ve had nothing but good experiences there.

Askew is one of the safest and most inclusive places I've been to. Quality of acts varies wildly, though it's important to have venues like that. I've only ever had one negative experience there with the plethora of times I've been to events, and even that negative experience was from one of the acts and not the staff or environment that are always very inclusive and cozy.

I think that you will be plenty comfortable at Askew. I go for live music and some smaller shows/comedy pretty frequently. My sister is 21 and I wouldn’t be concerned if she told me that she was headed there for the first time. If you’ve been out in NOLA or Austin then Askew should be cake.

I'm an Austin transplant from PVD. Askew is like a venue on the East Side in Austin, low key and hipster. Enjoy the show!
