For context, RI's tipped minimum wage is $3.89/hour. It was last increased in 2017.

Servers who earn the tipped minimum wage should absolutely receive a 20-25% tip. The person making a regular wage and expecting you to tip them for the privilege of standing in their presence? GTFOH.

Your employer will pay the difference if you don't receive enough tips to cover the minimum wage. So in effect, by tipping, you are subsidizing the employer.
