My friend is new to the providence/pawtucket area and is looking for new places to hang out and meet people. They are a mid-20s, into reading and arts, live music and live comedy. They don't really drink so barhopping isn't really an option. Are there any open mics in the area? Where do y'all go for fun? What are your favorite activities in the city? Favorite music venues or comedy clubs? Queer and POC spaces are also a plus

Music and comedy open mics are usually in bars. That's part of their economic model. I wouldn't rule a bar out. Anyhow, there are comedy open mics all around the metropolitan area, but I don't know of any specifically on the Pawtucket line. There's Copperfield's in Johnston (Tuesdays), Pub on Park in Cranston (Mondays), Park Place Cafe in Cranston (Wednesdays), Town Pub in EP (Thursdays), and others. Most will have music open mics on other nights.

Every Sunday there is a queer knitting group at Small Format
Cafe. I know you said no bar culture but there is a group I meet up with every
Monday at Moniker Brewery called "Queers and Beers".
It's a huge group and a lot of members don't drink. You can
find more. https://instagram.com/queersandbeersofri?igshid=Yzg5MTU1MDY=

There is also a queer rock climbing group called
"Queers Who Climb". https://instagram.com/queers.who.climb?igshid=Yzg5MTU1MDY=

and my favorite is "Queeraoke"

You can find Ocean State Pride Volleyball on Facebook. Play is most Sundays at the Y in Pawtucket.

Piggybacking -

Comedy Open Mic - Askew Tuesdays

Music open mic - Parlour Wednesdays

Music Open mic - Askew Mondays

Live music - both of these venues have live music every weekend at a minimum

Askew I especially recommend based on the OP - it’s a very chill and welcoming spot with a nice atmosphere and they have food as well as a bar. Both open mics are good scenes. I’ve never been to the comedy open mic.

There’s also a Thursday night open mic at The Mediator Stage which is in a Unitarian church - nice people and usually really good music. Good for participants and observers!

I was just wondering this the other day but for poetry open mics. Not Slam Poetry. Blue State Coffee used to have one way back in the day.
