That dog is bored and misses their mom... I know it sounds stupid but try to put yourself into the dogs... shoes? Paws? Dogs have a daily routine, if your friend is fine enough to have a phone call, ask her about it... if she's too sick, make one yourself. Go for walks, alot of walks, long walks. Let the dog sniff around for stimulation. You can very easily DIY some fidget toys with treats and old towels or a dollar tree blanket or depending on the size of the dog, empty toilet paper rolls even.

Make sure to tell your friend to never ask you for this favor ever again though.... some people are not empathetic enough for pets... not ment to attack you, my best friend literally hates all animals unless they're on a plate, she got other qualities 🤷‍♀️

Someone suggested getting rover to do some walks. I don’t really have time during the day so that might help!

I mean….sure you can call your hospitalized friend and tell her that she needs to find someone else to keep the dog. But honestly, if she had someone else, she probably would’ve asked them.

What is the dog doing that is so annoying? If she’s distracting you from work, put her in another room like the bathroom and put on some music or a fan and let her settle. Or go give her a proper walk so she’s tired enough to nap. I dunno.

I think it would be pretty shit to make more trouble for her when she’s down and out already but if you can’t manage the dog then I suppose you need to.

She barks when she’s not getting attention and jumps on the kitchen counter and gets into food. She’s not crate trained.

Ugh. That sucks.

If she’s barking and you work from home and have to do meetings then I get it. Probably time to tell friend that doggo needs to go somewhere—either another friend or a boarding kennel as it’s impacting your ability to do your job.

I thought about offering to pay for and set up something with Rover. Both my husband and I work from home so if we are both in a meeting and she starts barking it’s been hard. She’s still a puppy so not her fault but just something we were not prepared for. Obviously my friend wasn’t expecting it either.

I would not recommend using rover. Too much liability if it goes south and I’ve seen it go pretty south. If anything, I’d board her at her vet or a proper boarding facility. If she’s a puppy though, she may not be up to date on all of her vaccines in order to board safely.

That's an easy fix. Get some dog safe bones, chews, stuffed Kong, toy etc so the dog is kept busy. Keep food off the counter. Set down some boundaries in your home. Get a kiddie gate so dog stays in its own area. Lots of solutions for your problem.

If you care for your friend absolutely try to make it work. Sounds like you don't though. If one of my friends made a post like this I'd honestly rather find a new friend. My friends are my chosen family and id be so grateful to help them in their time of need

Jesus Christ. I drove her to the hospital, brought her everything she needed, and drove her kid to another town to stay with family. You are acting like I hate my friend. I was not prepared to watch a puppy on top of working a full-time job and I am overwhelmed and exhausted.

I sympathize with you, I honestly do-- it sucks to have a big responsibility unexpectedly dropped on your lap for an indeterminate amount of time.

But in this case, yes, I think it would be unkind to ask her to find someone else. Your friend is in a scary and stressful situation. Don't give her one additional thing to stress about. You are doing something really helpful for her and I am sure she appreciates it. Suffer through the next few days-- they will be over soon-- give the dog back, and then celebrate.

All this being said, can you hire someone to take the dog on some long, LONG walks for the next few days? Lol.

That’s a good idea. I can’t stop my workday to take her for a walk every time she gets hyper. I even thought of hiring someone on Rover to help out.

You could, but it's not exactly what friends do.

If it's just a few more days, suck it up and deal with it. Take the dog for walks, tire it out.
