Let me preface this with that I am young and naiive and I haven't made the best choices. I just need an outside opinion on if I'm just crazy or not.

Adding some context here, so I get a friend request from this person a few weeks ago. He sent me a few messages just generally talking about stuff. Normally I don't add random people I don't know to my Facebook or respond to DMs there, but I kept chatting with him anyways because he was fun to talk to.

A little bit about him. He says he's currently deployed in the Marines to Iraq and is an E-7.

He asks me out, and I say yes to him, that we can see where it goes. Cue me talking to a couple of friends about the guy and they are suspicious of him. He originally said he can't send video of himself because it was against the rules, but after a lot of talking to him and finding out that his photos were posted on a news site about his photos being targeted by scammers to trick people into pay exorbitant amounts of money, he did prove he was the real person.

He has asked for money on the account of having no money for food. Not much, but around 50$. Now I'm not sure how deployed stuff works, so I don't know if it's real or not and he has claimed that a photo was originally his (a photo of a Military ID) was a "sample" , except it was edited heavily it looks like and the original was obscured. My question is why say it's yours and not say it's a sample before hand? And like what's even the point of that?

They usually target lonely pensioners because youngsters are more educated on scams thanks to the internet.

Frankly, if you send any money, I can only offer a sympathetic facepalm for ya.

If he’s asking for money, you’re being conned. This is a scam. Period.
