I used to give the same advice, because...Well, it is what people do. Go to a bar and talk to other patrons.

At 25, he has only learned from Reddit and other social media that speaking to someone outside of the cyber-boundary is creepy/stalker-ish. The concept of, "Buy a girl a drink?" or "Hey man, what is the score?" To start a conversation seems to be lost.

Even though it's not a totally black and white thing, you're not wrong. Heck, over the last several years I've mostly stopped saying hey to people I walk by in Jackson Ward, but 10 years ago most people said hey to me first. Now people ignore me and look creeped out or offended.

At younger 20s bars where people are getting pretty drunk, it's still sort of OK to talk to a rando, right? And maybe a bit moreso for older crowds? I mostly go to live music over bars, so talking to randos is hard anyway. But I def creeped out 1 of 2 girls at a show recently by asking them what song the band was covering.
