I used to give the same advice, because...Well, it is what people do. Go to a bar and talk to other patrons.

At 25, he has only learned from Reddit and other social media that speaking to someone outside of the cyber-boundary is creepy/stalker-ish. The concept of, "Buy a girl a drink?" or "Hey man, what is the score?" To start a conversation seems to be lost.

I would but your r/unpopularopinion post about Taco Bell makes me think I shouldn’t. Lol just kidding. Feel free to shoot me a DM if you want to hang out.

If I saw this earlier, I would have invited you out with my friends. Home now though.

Even though it's not a totally black and white thing, you're not wrong. Heck, over the last several years I've mostly stopped saying hey to people I walk by in Jackson Ward, but 10 years ago most people said hey to me first. Now people ignore me and look creeped out or offended.

At younger 20s bars where people are getting pretty drunk, it's still sort of OK to talk to a rando, right? And maybe a bit moreso for older crowds? I mostly go to live music over bars, so talking to randos is hard anyway. But I def creeped out 1 of 2 girls at a show recently by asking them what song the band was covering.

Check out some local meetup groups. They're a great place to find people with similar interests and new things to explore in the area.

Bouldering/rock climbing is a super social solo sport. It's fun on its own and you can go alone, but you can still easily talk to people (especially people working on the same route as you) and make friends through it.
