Anyone else have a weirdly aggressive run in with the guard dude(s?) outside of the Daughters of the Confederacy building?

My dog stopped to sniff/pee by the grass at the edge of the lawn between the DAC building and the VMFA (all six of our feet were on the sidewalk, not on the lawn) and he came over waving his arms and yelling. Granted, I understand we could have walked over to the other side of the sidewalk, but it would go against the flow of traffic so to speak, and she wasn’t in the grass or anything. We acknowledged him and waved in apology and kept walking, but he followed us, still yelling. Not sure if he was just having a bad day, or was bored, or if the DAC is cracking down on them, but it felt weirdly aggressive for the moment and I’m still dwelling on it (maybe just because I’m an anxious person and don’t like getting intro trouble haha). Is this happening to everyone or am I an asshole dog owner…?

Yeah, I think some people are compounding their hate for DOC and disdain for overly aggressive Rent-A-Cops, but these guys strike me as the type to be assholes regardless of what they’re “guarding”. They just happened to be the ones hired and assigned for this particular building.

I doubt the crew of almost exclusively African American guards really give a fuck about the DOC itself.

I’m frequently walking to and from the VMFA and I’ve seen many times where the security guards yell at and run towards oblivious people. It’s pretty unnecessary but I’ve started to just laugh at how ridiculous it is!

What would that accomplish? Most likely somebody who has nothing to do with what you’re angry about having to clean up that mess. Find constructive ways to vent your anger where the people who actually deserve it are the ones affected. Also don’t litter or be a petty criminal if you want to accomplish anything, all it does is sow further division and give them ammo.

Feel free to yell back and tell them to fuck off. They have zero control over you or your dog. Even if your dog steps on their grass they can’t do anything, so don’t worry about it or give your power away to them.

I don’t know but I can be pretty confident. That DoTC place is filled with people that want to continue their little club and they know that the public is against them. They’re actively trying to just go under the radar and stay out of trouble. Why would a group trying to stay out of trouble go around stirring up trouble? It makes much more sense that a redditor in a sub full of fervent left wingers, takes the opportunity to rile up anger towards them by making up a story that everyone will believe. This was about 15 years ago. They came in every so often as a large group of about 20. The first time they came in, was when they said they didn’t want any black people waiting on them. They only said it to the host and none of us told management because 15 years ago, the “customer is always right” attitude was really catered to so we figured management wouldn’t care. It wasn’t until after they left that management found out about what they said and they had our backs and said the next time they came in, they couldn’t make that request and we could ask them to leave. The next time they came in, they didn’t say anything about not wanting a black server but we always made sure to have the black, gay server wait on them just to make them as uncomfortable as possible.

I had a friend come to meet me at the VMFA once and he walked across their walkway to get there. He was 3 steps away from being off the property when the security guy chased him down and made him walk all the way back to the other side of the building to get on the sidewalk instead. We all laughed about how the guy literally made him spend twice the time on the property when he was mere feet away from being off of it.
