Breaking soon: "An unnamed city public utilities agency may have been fraudulently charging residents, while neglecting to ensure those charges were accurate or even respond to residents' questions in a timely manner, in the third precinct area of Richmond, which includes neighborhoods like The Fan, Stony Point and Willow Lawn, according to Richmond Police."

Erm… maybe I’m living under a rock but is this an actual problem?

Edit: not challenging the comment, just really curious if this is actually happening? My utility bill has gone up significantly since I moved in 3 years ago and I assumed it was a combo of more laundry/dishes (had a baby) and increasing prices

Well this smells a lot like Seibert’s

And if it isn’t, who could possibly be worse that warranted an investigation?

Could see another towing company contracted to nearby private lots going outside their scope and pissing Seiberts off enough to call in favors. Seems more plausible than the city finally going after Seiberts.

BureauOfBureaucrats t1_jadbme3 wrote

They’re “not naming the company” but we all know it’s Seibert’s and the city’s deliberately crappy management of parking that causes all this.

Pretty simple investigation. They’ve got a police precinct in office.

Anyone in the Richmond region who believes they may have been the victim of illegal practices by a towing company based in Richmond can email towinginvestigation@rva.gov with details.

Police said some of those illegal practices could be:

Towing from unauthorized areas

Having been charged in excess of the maximum $135 for the initial tow

Having been charged in excess of the drop fee of $40 when the vehicle has been hooked but not yet towed away

Storage fees that accrued due to an illegal tow

The hate for Sieberts is probably the only thing that everyone in the city can agree upon.

I'd go so far to say that if Joe Morrisey ran for a seat based on a campaign of burning down the Sieberts building, he might win.

I got a letter in the mail about this. The company that got me was No Limit Towing and they charged $295 for a first tow. I emailed the investigator with all the info. Hopefully something comes of it.

Its not Seiberts it's No Limt Towing and Recovery over Hull Street. They do alot of towing downtown for apartments and southside

They towed my sisters car a few months ago and charged her... wait for it 350 to get her car back. The thing is. They towed it from her parking spot at a complex she lived in for years. Granted they said they never had seen the car before, and they couldn't see the tag. But just be looking for about 10 seconds and it's clearly visible even though the windows are tinted. They also scratched the holy hell out of the car, she had gotten it maybe 2 weeks prior.

When you call the place a woman picks up and she's rude as hell. There's no actual line to a business it's just her cell phone. It's shit all together. They mostly stick to African American neighborhoods in the Southside

Final Notice towing, is that you?

If it's not Seiberts it would have to be them, right?

Nothing says “upstanding business who is a valuable contributor to the community” like the name “Final Notice Towing”.

I had my car towed TODAY, in the 3rd precinct, from a spot in front my house that either myself or another tenant park literally every single day.

Do I have a case here?

StonedBirdman t1_jaf2e3i wrote

Seiberts towed me years ago in an spot that I had parked in regularly, it was a street cleaning day but there were absolutely no signs indicating that it was off limits (I walked up and down the block to check both before and after!)
