Has anyone in your family been treated by VCU Health? Small random checks can be return of medical overpayments and appear long after any doctor's visit.

Yes, both of us were treated there. That’s a good point.

The hospital and medical center changed sofware services last year and there were some pretty big billing hiccups in the transition. They may be trying to make right on some of those.

Oh yeah they switched to or from Cerner, right? Something like that? Thanks for your helpful response.

Any return address on the envelopes? Any address on the checks? I know "call VCU" is not quality advice because which, out of a few thousand(?), phone numbers do you call but maybe looking up the address online will give you a number or two. Or call a general VCU info number? Maybe the police have heard about a scam?

It does have the return address as being VCU’s legit address and a PO Box, and I know, right, I’d like to call, but I don’t know where to start and I feel like it’ll be a run around.

procurement_services@vcu.edu if it’s accounts payable-related for the University, not the VCUHS. They can confirm what it’s from and whether or not it’s legitimate. When was your husband an employee?

Sounds like a scam. I've gotten things like that (not from VCU) and have ripped them all up because they were always for a smallish amount from companies that I didn't do business with.

My understanding is that scammers can use these checks to gain access to you checking account.
