If that financial crisis could wait until we sell our house, that’d be great
Why can't I sleep? I've been up since 2:30, contemplating the day. Whatever I do, I expect I will be doing it with my eyes mostly shut.
Today I need to get my car inspected. I have never let one expire before, and I feel such shame I didn't notice sooner.
Return to work after covid. Not sure which is worse. J/K.
I need to run too many errands on top of my work day today. I'm feeling a bit flustered
Back to the grind after the weekend. But I am getting a flu and booster shot this afternoon, so I guess I have, uh, plans? It's something different for a workday anyway.
Currently in the midst of interviews to change jobs due to the same. So tired of the work to live life and dealing with humans 👽
What paddle and boat do you have?
I have an Ocean Kayak Maibu 11.5 and an aqua-bound sting ray paddle. The boat is a bit of a beast to haul off the car and to the water, but it's super stable, which is what I want for fishing.
Got a sick Jaina tattoo at the festival yesterday, will be a very slow wfh day since my forearm is quite sore.
Impending doom anyone? 🤯
If you lost a grey/dilute tortie recently in the Manchester area, DM me because we may have found your cat. Will need to see pictures or describe the very specific marking on its face to claim. Otherwise we'll be calling around to see who can take her, check for a microchip, get her spayed and vaccinated and either keep her as a community cat we look after or get her adopted out.
When my kids were small I was 3 months over due when a cop pulled me over. I had no clue, but she was super nice about it.
I’m feeling hopeful. Started reading unwinding anxiety. Gotta fight that monkey brain seeing problems where there are none.
Wow. 3 years ago I got a ticket on the first day of the month my sticker was expired. I’m still mad about it to this very day.
It happens. About 12 years ago I let mine expire, apparently for over 3 months. I genuinely did not notice or think about it until I got pulled over. It was a pretty cheap ticket, at least.
Also having trouble sleeping
Thank you for looking out for the kitty. If she ends up needing a home I might be able to provide one, please PM me if so.
Got pulled over this summer. Mine was more than 6 months out of date. Genuinely hadn't noticed, but I don't think the believed me 🤦♀️
I didn’t sleep well, which is a long time problem for me. But I’m up and moving and headed into work soon. Hoping for a good day today.
I need to get mine inspected. I recently moved from a state that doesn't do that so this is a new experience.
Mornings shouldn't be allowed.
.... still waiting for the punchline for this joke... It is a joke... right...?
ಠ_ಠ
Well I’m going on two months of unemployment. I feel you. This job market is hard. I don’t buy the lie that “nobody wants to work anymore”, to me it seems like nobody is simply willing to hire anymore.
Please please please put the astros in the dirt.
Don’t you make me choose between financial ruin and rooting for the Houston Astros.
You're not alone. Except our former state had inspections too, we're just lazy.
Day goes by quick that way though!
Yea there’s plenty of part time, no benefit, $14/hour jobs out there.. but when it comes time to find the full time, benefit included, $50k/year every one calls ‘Labor Shortage!’
Exactly that. When I hear that phrase used, what I am essentially hearing is “No, we simply refuse to pay a living wage”. It’s okay. They will pay.
Thank you for giving me a reason to watch the World Series it’ll be fun!
Hate my job so lookin for a new one. $15 ain't even enough for a kitchen job anymore. Life's just too expensive. Just can't do a restaurant job without tips anymore tbh. Livin paycheck to paycheck and still falling behind. It's all fucked.
But I have a date tonight and tomorrow so that's nice lol. Weather is pretty. Leaves are pretty. Tryna enjoy it before they all fall and it's grey n cold.
I grew up in Virginia, I should know better. That being said, I did move to a state for 2 years that didn't do inspections and upon returning I didn't have a car for a while, so I fell out of habit, I guess.
New cat had caught a chipmunk or baby squirrel when I went outside the other day. I wanted to move my peppers inside, but I couldn't handle the death squeaks so I went back inside.
Go Phils!
I know this thread isn't for advice, so unsolicited here. As a manager in tech, I'd very much prefer my team to reach out earlier when they're stuck.
I have a fourth round of interviews for this job I’m in consideration for this morning. I don’t want to get my hopes up, but I’m quietly hoping it goes well because the team seems very nice and it seems like it would be a complete 180 from the toxic environment I left last year. A recruiter reached out to me to begin with so that’s promising, right?
I always let mine expire by one day. That way I get thirteen months out of the inspection. Over time, I could get an entire extra year. It always makes me feel like I'm winning somehow.
Will do. We would love to take her in because she is beyond sweet - immediately giving head bumps, biscuits, purring, belly flops, and let me pick her up without a care in the world, but our inn is very full lol. I have not found any cats that match her description on here, nextdoor, or the lost and found/pawboost groups yet. We're 98% sure she's one of the kittens from the litter born on our block this summer but just trying to do due diligence.
My FIL got let go last week after 17 years with the company. He's had a few interviews (and one today, fingers crossed!) and each one has told him he's "over-qualified."
Grateful for work from home because I started having back spasms last night. Not quite so bad this morning, but today will be spent in the recliner with the aleve close by.
Getting old is great! /s

But on the plus side...we would probably get another episode of always sunny about the Phillies winning the world series.
It’s going to be a good week. Yesterday I got a tattoo at anime ink con, so I’ve got a really gorgeous wound I’m working on healing up. Starting the last week of the job that I’ve been unhappy in for a long time. Excited to transition to something new!
I second this. And I'm a Mets fan. But I truly despise the Astros entire organization.
You’re right, and I know; I’m just bad at that. I feel like I ask too many questions for someone at the level I’m at and I worry it’d reflect poorly on me.
Also I only know two people who could help me and one of them was on vacation.
Still unemployed. Another week of sitting at home and applying for jobs. Yayyyyyy /s
Fingers crossed for you! I also bailed on a toxic work environment last year, I know how you feel!
Please don't "keep as a community cat" if you can help it, outdoor cats are an invasive predator that have led to the extinction of many species.
Afraid to hear that for jobs - it’s probably age-ism. The person applying certainly is willing to take that job so it’s disappointing they can’t get one.
It's not the best option but sometimes the only option, I don't think this girl will have any trouble getting adopted though, she's very comfortable around humans so I definitely want to get her placed before it gets too cold out. But thanks for your concern, I have rescued and placed cats since I was very young, I can count on one hand the number I've had no other option than to keep solely as a community cat.
Can confirm. I've been in tech for 30 years. Ask someone, if they can't give you the information you need, ask them who might be about to help. At the very least it will show that you're being proactive. And keep notes about who you talk to, could come in handy if you're still learning the org and the associated areas of responsibility.
I worked a job where I took support cases/tickets for two years. I feel your pain. I did my fair share of sitting on cases for too long that I didn't know what to do with. It can be so damn overwhelming. I felt a lot of shame.
Finally, by the very end of the two years I had gotten into a groove of asking for help as soon as I needed it. What helped me the most was remembering that this is just a job and my performance does not really reflect on me personally. It reflects on the company and my manager. The just a job mindset allowed me to slowly come out of my perfection paralysis and just go thru the motions to get shit done. Asking for help is just one of the motions you have to go through to get a case solved.
You're not bad at your job or bad at tech, your company and manager have failed you. You didn't get the training you should have gotten and I bet your team is understaffed and the other people on your team are undertrained as well.
I'd recommend letting your manager know that you need help and you aren't sure who to ask. If they don't know the answer, hopefully they can help you find someone who can help. It's important for your manager to know if you don't have the resources you need to do your job. It's their job to help you succeed. And they need to know if you need better training or if they need to hire more people.
I finally got out of the support job and moved on to a much higher paying and less stressful job in tech in August of this year. You can do it too if that's what you want!
Let me know if you want to chat via DM. I know the struggle very well and I feel your pain!
Feeling REALLY melancholic (I think) after finishing Cyberpunk 2077 Edgerunner on Netflix.
It hit me really hard for some reason other day. Maybe it was the weather.
Hope Chris Rock show tomorrow night will cheer me up good.
Recovering from a 14 hour drive yesterday. I think I'll go see Black Adam today.
I need to go to DMV but I don’t want too.
To be fair, it's probably going to happen anyway since the "worker" class started getting too many ideas about fair wages (and we can't have that), so if we're going to have a recession the Phils might as well win.
Thank you!!
What sort of job are you looking for?
It still blows my mind there are whole industries where people do that much interviewing. I would be somewhat less than thrilled to be expected to take that much time off my current job to do unpaid BS for another employer.
I’ll admit I was a little taken aback when the recruiter called to schedule this interview (I was told upfront there would be a phone screen, an interview with the manager, and then a panel interview), especially since it’s for a creative role. Luckily I’m freelancing right now so I can make my own schedule, but I am hoping this is the last interview and it’s just formality at this point to get to know the team. It does feel like a lot, though!
Have a nasty case of Tonsillitis. Bleh. Can’t wait to eat real food again.
I was a Content Writer at my last company. Although I've been looking for similar work for a while now fruitlessly, feel like I need to broaden my options.
It took about 5 interviews for my current job (most were over the phone though, so I'm not sure if that detracts since I didn't have to take time off for them).
Each interview was actually me just getting to talk to each of the people who would be on my team. This is the best job I've ever had in my life.
Finally get the massive dead tree in our backyard taken down. It’s been awesome to watch.
As a person who doesn’t pay attention to sports, my first and only thought when seeing that the Phillies were playing was « I hope they win so we get a new episode ft green man »
Getting married on Sunday to my best friend so that's pretty cool.
Today is going to be fantastic fucking day. My worst neighbors are moving.
This place was a meth den that got more active within the last 6 months or so and was drawing all kinds of sketchy characters to the block. There's always been barking dogs, junkie fights, uncollectable waste like couches and carpets showing up at the garbage cans and then mouldering for months, and for the last couple weeks a generator running almost non-stop. I've thought they were moving a couple times so I've learned not to get my hopes up, but right now there's a couple junk hauler guys with a full pickup truck and trailer just removing all the bullshit from the house. I think it's really happening.
I got my newly fostered dog to lay down next to my desk in his comfy dog bed as I work and do little house chores. It’s the little wins in life.
Tech worker for 2 decades here - everyone asks for help all the time no matter how senior they are! Just avoid asking the same question multiple times because that shows that you're not keeping good notes.
It's also strongly encouraged to ask people for recommendations of people to ask - if you only know two people to ask and aren't getting help from them, ask around to find a third person!
Being silently stuck and beating your head against the wall without letting anyone know is a very bad sign and that kind of shit will not reflect well on you. It's so much better to feel like an idiot and ask for help. Plus it's a skill that you will need to improve over your career.
Also, remember that people like feeling smart and important and helpful - you're actually giving them a gift if you ask them for help and they can help you!
Good luck!!!!

100% this.
I literally was listening to a podcast interview with the author yesterday!
You got this, friend! Find those triggers and rewire them!
Congrats!
Thanks! Great advice, I appreciate it.
Only thing is that I feel like I'm better at asking for help in an office, where I can see who's busy and actually see how they react when I ask them for help. Being fully remote has been a tough shift for me, but I need to just get over that I guess, lol.
Yup, getting better at this stuff is hard but super important. Being remote adds an extra level of discomfort. Cut yourself some slack (no pun intended) for feeling uneasy, take a deep breath, and take the first step.
Also, it helps if you have your presentation kinda streamlined. "Here's a synopsis of the problem, here's short bullet points about what I've already tried and where I've made progress. I need help figuring out Obstacles X and Y, and don't have login access to Z."
Please tell you you're going to have a Pokemon themed wedding, and drive off in the Lugia car!
Trazadone at 50mg - works like a charm - non habit forming - if you got a doctor - request a prescription :)
I started Wellbutrin XR 150mg and have been taking Trazadone for sleeping - and it's been glorious. Also put unwinding anxiety in my audible play list!
More than two rounds blows my mind. That feels like a whole lot of indecision. Best of luck on your interview and good ju-ju coming your way that it works out!
Great advice, thanks!
I think my initial impressions were off by starting on a team that wasn't always receptive to questions (really kinda toxic), so I got that drilled in my head. Gonna need to get over that at some point, haha.
It's different people each time at least! But yes I am hoping for good news this week, thank you!
I ended up going into temp work and I enjoy it more but the health insurance isn’t great on paper (I’m still on my mom’s)
I'd rather eat my shoe than root for the cheating Astros, and I walk around Broad st in those shoes.
Im no doctor, but my experience with legal weed smoke and a boring audio book make me confident in recommending that to you
Ahh I wish, if my fiance was more into Pokémon I would have! We are taking pics with my wedding Pikachu plush though lol.
Bring a book and it won't even hurt that badly. Bonus points if you go to a more rural based DMV. They generally go a lot faster, and the folks are nicer.
Today is my last day at my job where I have to communicate with customers. I’ll send good vibes your way from the other side
I just take a half a pill, that stuff is like Mike Tyson, I’m out hard.
I don’t know what the “right” action to take is in these maulings. That injured squirrel wasn’t going to respawn, but I didn’t want it to suffer a prolonged torturous death so I made Leo come inside.
I feel this post !!!!! Fighting off major depression had my first panic attack in a few years yesterday- I took today off as a mental health day just took a xanex gonna try n sleep it off - hope all my fellow RVA peeps r having a. Better day then mine lol
Congratulations 🍾
Ohhh book recommendation thnx
I can also vouch for Wellbutrin. Still have bad days sometimes (doesn't everyone though) but even my worst days are easier to deal with now. If that makes sense!
1000% makes sense - how it works for me :) and it's help with my ADHD. Talk Therapy and these medications have been amazing.
I take trazadone and melatonin together and sometimes I’m still up.
Duly noted, thank you. I do not have a doctor, but ill look into it. Maybe some good ol fashioned Nyquil will help

It sounds like it worked out great!
cries in $14 hr
cries in even lower state park wages
My version of that involves listening to the BBC. Comforting, repetitive, informative if I choose to pay attention.
I’m on 200 mg of trazadone and still sometimes can’t sleep.
ah gezz im sorry that sucks - i hope things improve
FYI, sent you a message.

My plan for today is to sleep. Just worked 4 12 hour shifts and one more tonight
