I went to a Halloween bar crawl but I just moved here and don’t know anybody so after I got a drink I was just standing by myself awkwardly so I left - πŸ˜…

Talk to people. It's hard and some will ignore you but nothing ventured nothing gained

Top-Experience-8874 t1_iub4xgf wrote

I think I need to take a class or something it would be easier for me to talk to ppl not in a bar setting

8

SilverLengthy t1_iub6nur wrote

Definitely take it slow! I think it helps having a friend who pushes you to talk to others. But like the other person said, the only way it'll ever get easier is by talking to more people and learning how to return the vibe and emotion that they give you!

Top-Experience-8874 t1_iub9d14 wrote

When I’m with a friend , I’m the chatty one lol but when I’m by myself I just clam up idk I still have the wristband on so I think I might try again

6

SilverLengthy t1_iub9nbz wrote

How much was the wristband btw? I say go for it! I'm the same way, where if I'm with a friend or agreeing to meet someone at a bar beforehand, I'm super talkative, but the idea of approaching others just scares me to death sometimes. The more I drink, the more I open up tho

Charlesinrichmond t1_iuda4xp wrote

key is just get yourself out there, but yeah, if you figure out something you like doing you are more likely to have stuff in common with the people you meet.

But you do need to get out there, no one will come to you. And it's hard out of college

2

Top-Experience-8874 t1_iudbjsj wrote

Yeah why was it so easy making friends at 20? Lol perhaps because more drinking was done at 20 🀣 I’m going to a paint and sip next weekend , I think it’ll be more my speed :) wish me luck hahaha

1

Charlesinrichmond t1_iudsffc wrote

you can do it!

It'll suck, of course, but eventually you'll get past it. Where as if you don't try it'll keep sucking. Cheery thought eh?

I was someplace by myself last night and a nice person came over and asked if they could sit with me since they were also there alone. We ended up having a great conversation and waved over another person who was there alone who joined us. It always helps to just go for it. If you pick the wrong person or it’s awkward, move on. I was so happy to have someone come chat to me and grateful they had the courage. What’s the quote, you miss all the shots you don’t take? I find Richmond people to be pretty friendly in general.

pumicepickle t1_iubh9u2 wrote

That's exactly why I didn't go to one lol. I'm already such an odd cat and going to a social event based on drinking in groups sounded fun but I just couldn't get myself to do it

Beaming over the fact that our porch kitty (posted in one of the dailies earlier this week) has been adopted by a lovely fellow Redditor. Her new name is Emma. And was WAY easier to get into a crate than any of our resident kitties, and our resident kitties have been informed of this fact. Wishing Emma and her new human many years of wonderful memories.
