unfortunately as much as i would love to keep said furball, i have two cats and a dog and just don't think i can truly give it the time, attention and vet care (just basics, doesn't seem sick but still) that it needs. i searched rescues in the sub search bar, but the most recent post is someone looking for a rescue to adopt from etc. rather than anyone looking for a rescue to surrender to.

i did send a couple emails out, but unless anyone needs a christmas kitten, i need to find somewhere to take this little homie in the next couple weeks. i'm very willing to foster it.

not a hundred percent sure on gender yet because i used psychological warfare (wet dog food and mama cat noises) to lure it out from under my house and it hasn't trusted me enough to come back out from under my bed yet. giving lil homie his or her space, and keeping my cats out of my room until then.

greatly appreciate any leads! a kitten was hit directly in front of my house yesterday so i didn't have the heart to leave it outside and risk this one also becoming one with the asphault. i also know the longer they stay outside and become more feral the less the likelihood of them becoming used to humans is so i decided to go ahead and try to act fast

(also not my kitten or descendants of my cats, got two bros who have been fixed and are indoor only, but i think the missing board in my porch made the warmth underneath my house seem like a fine place for a kitten to crash.)

I am also potentially interested in a Christmas kitten, or a December kitten. I rescued another teenage kitten recently and want a companion for her.

will definitely send you a DM here in a second! still haven’t figured out gender yet, my guess is kitten is about five weeks old. which normally is a little soon to be separated from mom, but i read a few things saying basically if mom is actually feral (which if the cat i believe is mom is, that seems to be the case) they need to be taken a little earlier or they get “taught” the fear of humans and are harder to socialize than kittens with a cat that is just a stray who trusts humans for instance.it needs some socialization for sure. i live in an old house that has some weird hiding spots and it has been hiding out a bit but i think is slowly starting to warm up. it finally wandered out a bit and started walking up to me like it was semi-interested in my existence but then when i looked over and said hello it ran back into hiding.

edit: Previous commenter may not be interested in kitten because it is more feral than they thought. So if anyone else thinks they may be interested or know of shelters please still comment them! ❤️ I am going to keep kitten to socialize for a couple weeks and try to get FIV tests etc but past that I am not able to keep it

Kittens that are feral can easily be socialized at that age. Honestly, I adopted a feral at 2 that was socialized by a wonderful human. People are very short sighted when it comes to understanding this!

Both of my other cats were also found this way, (one at Food Lion and one outside my house) and I can confirm. The other I found like this is literally the chillest, happiest, nicest cat. Granted I will say he socialized even faster than this one but this little one is doing well for it being the first 24 hours. I also think its sibling was the kitten hit in front of my house a day ago and it might’ve been sad/scared and looking for mom or sibling. I’ve looked outside but no trace of anyone else yet.

u/Quardener wanted a cat and was doing research about humane ways to adopt. See if they will take it to the vet and keep it. Also I would be on the lookout for more kittens- I got my cat after she hid some kittens around my porch. Maybe there are more nearby and this one wandered off.

yeah i am worried after the one being hit and this one that there may be more. gonna investigate more tomorrow and call around as well and see if rescues have any traps to loan out. it’s about my bedtime for the evening, and i’m hoping it was a small litter and maybe those are the only two (only because it’s so hard to find homes for them sometimes) i am hoping since it isn’t peak kitten season i may have more luck than i have had in the past when i found kittens

if that redditor would be interested i would love for homie to find a home that would want him/her.

I have a trap you can borrow if you want. Hit me up and I can drop it off if you're Northside somewhere or you can come get it.

Call Richardson’s Rescue. They are in Mechanicsville but they are great. If you are willing to foster the baby, the organization will set up and pay for the spay/neuter, the vet and even food if you need that help. They’ll do all the interviews and vetting for the new owners so all you really do is take care of the baby. She’ll come to you if that’s helpful and she’s really great. Frank and to the point but really great. They also have options if you don’t want to foster the kitten. And if you find someone here who wants the kitten, the organization can do the vetting process and make sure it’s a good fit, you just give them her contact after she’s done the like initial paperwork/phone call.

I actually have 4 very sweet, actually cute kittens that need a home, too. They're "feral" but when we bring them food they're more interested in cuddling and getting scritches and rolling around on your feet than eating. I don't know where to take them (SPCA? RACC? Smoky's is so hard to get a slot for TNR. Private vet?), so if someone wanted a kitty that would be very convenient. Gonna get cold soon.
