Just bought my first car! A 2016 Golf TSI with 96,000 miles. I have a feeling I’m going to need to do an engine flush /trans flush, possibly look over a few other things as it hits the 100k mark. I was curious if anyone had any recommendations/reviews on VW dealership shops or if anyone knew of any reputable independent mechanics that won’t rip you off. I’d love to go out and check out some stores but I’ve been bedridden with covid all week. Appreciate any and all comments. Thanks a bunch guys, hope everyone enjoys their Thursday❤️

Elliott Automotive used to be a more exclusive VW shop on Horsepen between Broad and Staples Mill. They changed ownership and we sold our VW decades ago, so I can't speak to them now.

I have an 08 Rabbit with just under 100k miles on it. I take it to General Auto and Tire on Lombardy and they’ve always done right by me - they’re pretty up front about what needs to be done vs could be done and can usually work me in within two days of giving them a call. They’re also conveniently pretty close to my work, so that’s an obvious bonus for me.

If you’re in Midlo, I’ve a Golf that I’ve taken to 1 Stop on Midlothian Turnpike a few times. Always been good and knowledgeable.

I was going to recommend Elliot. They are good guys there and the boss Jay is great. If he cant get it done inhouse he will bring in a professional from outside to help
get the job completed properly and affordably.

Congrats! I own that car's cousin ('18 Golf GTI.) And it sounds like you're on the right path. In my opinion, after owning mostly BMWs and VWs for the last two decades, I believe that a good specialist can save you money and hassle. You want a place that has already worked on 50 of those same cars and can give you a list of what to expect, not a place that has to figure it out as they go along.

First one that comes to mind... Delta V Motorsports in the city is plenty familiar with that "mk7" chassis (although they mostly handle the GTI and Golf R versions, it's the same basic car.) Worth a call at least.

I've heard good things about Import Autohaus but I've also heard bad things, and that they are expensive. Again, worth looking into perhaps.

Oh, on that 1.8T engine you are probably due for an intake cleaning (carbon buildup thanks to direct injection) or at least inspection by that age/mileage as well. Just something you may need to budget for.

Good luck!

I just did my 40k service on my GTI at browns VW in midlo. About the same price as the Indy shop I talked to, but they gave me a loaner for the day. Also did my state inspection for free a couple months ago.

Other than that, Euro Ground Automotive in Short Pump or Delta V downtown.

If you don’t mind going a little north, there’s a place called VW motors in Ashland that’s amazing!
