If you live in 04, swing by a polling location today, maybe!
What are you up to today, rva?

I hope you washed it
Just imagine how many hands he has shaked today, ew.
Luckily, I was one of the first.
Well done
You should wash that hand immediately. No telling where it's been.
got 'im!
The more you think about it, Joe truly is legislative herpes. HSV-1 may prefer mouths, but it will move south if there’s no other option.
Well, I just read his Wikipedia page. Holy shirts and pants! How is this guy even electable? Oh wait, nvm. Sexual predators in public office is as American as… sexual predators in office.
2pm at IBEW and Joe is still here. Glad to have had the same experience as you lol
How was his handshake?
It didn't register, to be honest. At the same time he was shaking my hand, he said, "Hi, I'm Joe Morrissey," and all I could think was that I wouldn't tell people that.
I like to imagine its moist and limp
Is it in yet?
Lol. I want to go to that polling spot now
It's been very busy all day!
Username checks out.
I saw him and dodged him!!
Why? What do you like about McClellan. Politically not personally? I’m asking honestly
She's the most experienced candidate and, unlike Morrissey, I feel like I can rely on her to vote with other Democrats in the House. Plus, she won't be the public relations nightmare on the national stage that Morrissey would be.
Has she actually accomplished anything on her agenda? I got a mailer from her asking for my vote and it as very slim on real tangible achievements. I’m new to the area and Im just trying to get familiar with the players
I mean, you can see her sponsored bills here. It's all pretty standard stuff for a Democrat in a state senate.
Just so I understand: Are you advocating for a different candidate?
She’s not a full on creep and twice disbarred jackass like Morrissey.
Stood in line with Timmy Kaine and Jen McClellan at Diversity Thrift. Sort of weird that you go in on the back side but logistically it makes sense. I'd just never been over there.
> Sort of weird that you go in on the back side
Different Various strokes for different all kinds of folks, as they say.
yeah we parked on the opposite side of the building not really knowing where to go. i guess that's diversity's event space. worked out great.
I am currently eating Breakfast Pizza for the first time ever. It’s from Ukrops. Bacon, sausage, egg and some weird breakfast type sauce.
God bless America
Ukrops breakfast pizza > Rainbow cookies.
'breakfast type sauce' got me ngl
i believe the word you're looking for is 'gravy'
I think it was an upper midwestern thing? I had it in Iowa years ago, and it’s sooo tasty.
Casey's!! i would kill for Casey's rn
I don’t care what they charge by the slice at the food hall, worth it.
I used to drive by there but the food hall name threw me off. I thought it was like a food bank or soup kitchen. A coworker brought the pizza to work and told me food hall is what they call restaurant in ukrops lingo.
Just voted at Diversity. Was in and out pretty quickly, but it was also bustling.
Voted about an hour ago and the whole thing took about 20-30 mins. The lines are pretty gnarly (I’m used to voting in about 5 mins lol) but they were moving
I got there at 9:15 and had the same experience, it's a long line but it moves.
Voted there at 7:30. Was in and out in less than 5 minutes but it was getting busy.
as of fifteen minutes ago (approximately 11:30 am eastern time), there was a huge line around diversity. there was heavy traffic in the area.
A lot of people are willing to sacrifice time and energy for the anyone but morrisey movement (don't get me wrong, I am very pro Jen McClellan, but the reason I will TURN OUT tonight is for fear). If only we could just, assume it will be the landslide it should be, lol.
just did as well, It is absolutely popping here. tons of people
Y’all save some 2nd hand books for me! I’ll put them to good use.
Just went to diversity and the line was to the parking lot. Had to leave without voting. Excellent work, whoever arranged this!
The line took no more than 15 minutes from the parking lot. I also got there at 9.

Nightmare trying to vote there now
It's been a nightmare since lunch. My wife and I have tried repeatedly to vote today and can't even get in to park to vote (Chesterfield). Currently heading to Petersburg hoping it's better :(. It's surreal wanting to vote this bad in a primary and not being able to because of logistical issues.
I'm finally coming home. However, I thought y'all would like to know that my mom went to the doctor in this overseas country, and the doctor had received his MD from MCV.
That’s classic. Once had a doctor in Chicago threaten a friend who was trying to get out of the hospital after an ICU stay by saying “you work at VCU? I went to MCV and I have friends at VCU who I will tell you ignored my advice to stay in the hospital another day, don’t make me call them and tell them you did that”.
lmao
Is that not a HIPAA violation?
Voted around 7 at Dogtown Dance and it was super quick and easy. Kudos to all the people that worked hard to get everything set up in time. I have to do a site visit and I absolutely hate it. I don't function in the cold and I dislike leaving the house and driving anywhere.
Dogtown Dance was still quick and easy around 8:30.
Same.
Triple Dogtown Dance Dare You... Er I mean same at 9:00 while also still bustling.
Wish I had gone there, Diversity Thrift has a decent line and traffic is horrible.
Same here, there were people there to vote, but we got through super-quick. So proud to vote for McClellan!
I'm not in CD-4 but I've been a Jenn supporter for years. I'm so happy that she's running for Congress and by the looks of it, she should win today! But still, if you're eligible to vote today, please vote! We should not sit out when it comes to voting.
Voting, donating a leftover frozen turkey from Thanksgiving, and getting my tires rotated, baybeee.

not gonna lie i’m usually really politically involved but i had no idea it was today until this post. thanks!
If you're headed to vote, be kind to the volunteers. Im just leaving my first ever shift working the polls, and it's a lot. We have little info or authority. Just there trying to help. Complaining to volunteers just wastes their time and slows things down. So be patient, maybe get to know people in line, they are all our neighbors after all. Happy voting!
Thank you, I was really impressed by how fast it all moved at where I went. To volunteer with so little warning, on a weekday, a few days before Christmas, is not something that should be just taken for granted.
Be nice kind!
Thank you! I volunteered today too and this is completely accurate.
I have done early voting for the last few cycles, less than enthused to be back in a long line at meadowdale tonight but i couldnt live with myself if joe won by 1 vote.
In and out at Dogtown Dance in 5 minutes. Was the youngest voter there (for reference, I’m 25). It felt really good voting for Jennifer McClellan.
Dogtown was a real quick in and out. I don't think I've put a paper ballot in a ballot box since high school!
Finished Christmas shopping yesterday so all I have left is wrapping and some cricut crafting.
Getting my holiday depression this week - dad passed a few years ago so this time of year just feels sad. I really only find joy in giving gifts to my mom and siblings.
Anyway, forgot about voting this morning and woke up too late to do so - going to head over after work!
I’m sorry about your dad. This time of year is very melancholy for me too.
Just voted at Dogtown. They had a steady flow of people going in and out but it moved quickly.
Also just voted there and it was less than 10 minutes. The line looks long but moves quickly.
I’m coming back home from Boston for Winter Break right now, and I am so excited to be able to vote against Morrissey
super easy voting at diversity 30min ago
Huge turnout today omg

Working, voting, nail appt- first time ever, getting a spare key made. I can do that at Lowes right?
Yes, Lowe’s has a key machine right up by the registers. So in case you want your house key to have Spider-Man on it (cough) you don’t have to be embarrassed by it.
>in case you want your house key to have Spider-Man on it (cough)
I read this as "in case you want your house key to have Spider-Man cough on it" and I was wondering if there was a Lowes employee that was well-known for being really really into Spider-Man. 🕸🦸
yeah, they have a machine you can make key copies at.
Meadowdale library has a line wrapped around the building, so dress warm! But they're moving along nicely and you shouldn't let the line keep you from voting!
And Stoney just showed up..... causing a bunch of old white men behind me to grumble about "that Richmond guy" being in Chesterfield
I'm gonna be so curious to see the final turnout numbers.
Took us about an hour standing in that line, and that was after waiting in traffic to get the parking lot for about 20 minutes. When we left, the police were guiding traffic better I think.
What are the polling locations today? I'm in the fourth district and for the life of me i can't figure out where to vote, there is nothing on the department of elections website and my usual polling place was not open this morning at around 745.
Just to make this even easier for everyone:
Polls will be open from 6:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Any registered voter in Virginia’s fourth district may vote at any of these eight polling locations:
Brunswick Conference Center – 100 Athletic Field Rd, Lawrenceville, Virginia 23868
Charles City Government Center – 10900 Courthouse Road, Charles City, VA 23030
Dogtown Dance Studio – 109 W 15th St, Richmond, VA 23224
Diversity Richmond – 1407 Sherwood Ave, Richmond, VA 23220
IBEW Local 666 – 1390 E Nine Mile Rd, Highland Springs VA 23075
Meadowdale Library – 4301 Meadowdale Blvd, North Chesterfield, VA 23234
Surry Parks & Recreation Center – 205 Enos Farm Drive, Surry, VA 23883
Tabernacle Baptist Church – 444 Halifax St, Petersburg, VA 23803
That’s because the firehouse primary isn’t run by the DoE and is run by the VA Democratic Party. Here are the details you’re looking for.
Edit: the link says “tomorrow” but that’s because it was published yesterday in the style of a press release because of course that wouldn’t confuse people /s
Richmond’s location is Diversity Thrift and Dogtown Dance Studio. Highland Springs is IBEW 666. Chesterfield is Meadowdale Library.
Since it is a firehouse primary, it isn’t following typical voting procedures.
there's another post on the sub right now with voting locations. The closest to me in the MD was diversity thrift
If you’re voting at the Chesterfield location, make sure to budget enough time for it. The line is incredibly long.
I’m waiting in line to vote. It is crazy how many people shows up!!!
Goin to go vote, then work on packing for our trip. It’s bright out, if cold, so maybe my pups will get two walks today.
I’m so sad I’m out of town for Christmas right now, I had no idea the special election would happen so soon and so close to Christmas :(
Today is the firehouse primary for Dems. The special election isn't until February.
Ah okay, good to know. Will definitely make sure to be around for that
Edit: the fuck is wrong with y’all downvoting me for making a plan to vote? Get off your high horse.
somebody does this every day to the daily, no clue why.
Looking forward to voting for Jenn later this afternoon.
It took an hour to vote at Diversity- doesn't include the traffic or trying to find parking
Any update on the Meadowdale line? We are looking to get there at like 5pm 😬
Edit: 530 pm, the line is 1.8 miles of cars and I have no idea how long it will take. The line is laughably long.
Edit edit:645pm, finally left. What the fuck.
Husband got there a little before 4:30ish and the line was a mile long just to park. It took about 45 minutes to get to the parking lot but apparently curbside voting is a thing over there now at this point so he's doing that.
[deleted]
Absolute shit show trying to get over to Diversity Thrift. Once you turn onto Sherwood it’s about a 20+ minute wait to even get halfway down the street. Guessing we’ll be waiting for parking for over an hour, plus however long it takes to stand in line. Would suggest any of the other polling places if you are still looking to vote this evening.
It's actually this way everywhere. Tried twice today to vote in Chesterfield and failed due to insane traffic. Heading down to Petersburg and wouldn't you know it there's now a bad accident on 95. The universe clearly doesn't want some of us to vote.
In line to vote now at diversity. Line wraps around the corner, but moving quick
Edit: line wraps twice around the inside. About 30 minute wait
Got in line at 1159 to vote @ Diversity Thrift...the people certainly came out of the woodwork to vote today...line stretches around the perimeter of the building.
Friends are reporting in that the other locations are just as slammed. I'm so used to my polling place being a ghost town that I was surprised by the line when I got to Diversity!
If you're voting now (at Diversity, 4pm and later) BRING YOUR COAT
Those lines are long
Just made it through the line at Dogtown pretty quick. The line was moving pretty quick. It took us about 20 or so minutes from queuing up to being done.
[deleted]
Where is that where the line wraps around twice? That sounds awful.
I read somewhere you need two forms of ID for voting today, any truth to that?
Nope, just one.
only if you don't have a state issued driver's license or the address on your driver's license is out of date *this is incorrect!
Still untrue.
oh ok thank you for letting us know! I had heard if your ID doesn't show address you needed to bring a bill, or something that proved residency. Apparently that was bunk!
You just need to verify the correct address that matches your voter registration
Even if you don't have a photo ID, you can still vote provisionally. That means your vote won't be counted unless it's close, and then all the provisional votes are tallied. Still worth showing up!
I haven't updated my license and while the poll worker had to call someone over because he didn't know what to do—I was one of the first ones there—they ended up just confirming that the address I wrote down was my current address. I was able to vote.
I just use my passport.
Just leaving voting at diversity. Took 50 minutes to get in and out. Wear a coat!
Just got back from the IBEW voting location in Highland Springs, in and out quickly. Joe M. is still there and a ton of volunteers supporting McClellan.
Voted at Meadowdale around 10 a.m. Line moved quickly, about a 20 minute wait. Girlfriend went around 4:30 p.m., jammed, cops waived her away from full library lot, no other obvious parking, she left and is pissed.
fuck, i’m sorry that happened. if you’re not familiar with the area, you wouldn’t know it is possible to go around into the parking area at the elementary school next door and walk in.
i think they were doing curbside voting and that place was just not built for it. should have been able to direct such a gross affront to the environment to a larger space like the high school bus loop. they are not prepared for the car crush there to get voters in, just to get cars through the area.
Thanks! I voted in the library. They must have switched to curbside at some point. I think they needed more voting sites. Probably didn’t have the volunteers to staff them though.
Not that they especially have a chance in the 4th, but are the Republicans also having a primary today?
They already chose their candidate at their convention on Saturday. They're running Leon Benjamin again.
Oh goody, now he can lose a third time by over 20%.
they did ranked choice voting last Saturday
No, they had theirs a few days ago.
Woke up around 1130 last night in so much pain I was shaking.
I thought Santa was supposed to bring bad kids lumps of coal, not kidney stones 😔
Teleworking from bed with lemon water and a heating pad it is!
bummer, hope you feel better
Just voted in Dogtown — it’s crowded but I was in and out in 15 min. If driving I recommend parking a block or two away from the theatre.
I'm in quarantine since I got sick over the weekend and found out it's COVID. At least I have more time to enjoy my new place.
Voting took about an hour at Diversity just now. Lots of folks in line but moving quickly! Vote McClellan!
Today is one of my on-site workdays so I’m trying to get this coffee to work. Partner and I are going to vote after work today, hoping it won’t be too crowded that last hour but don’t think we can swing a stop on the way into our respective offices this morning.
Genuinely can't tell which district I'm supposed to be in, whether I'm actually district 04 (that's what it says on my registration) or if that's an error.
I live near J Sarge's Parham Road campus, and when I put my address into House.gov's "Find my representative" tool, it says I'm in VA-07. When I look at a map of VA-07, I am fully inside of VA-07. So I don't understand how my registration for the same address has me in VA-04? I looked up a congressional district map here and yeah in this too I'm fully inside 07.
Who was on your ballot in Nov? McEachin was 04, Spanberger 07.
Yeah it was McEachin, idk why but the fuckin House.gov website is out of date, I found an in-date resource and I'm in 04.
And I knew I was registered in 04 I just thought that might have been in error.
I’m in the same area as you, we were part of the redistricting and are now part of 04.
did you vote in november?
Yeah it was McEachin, idk why but the fuckin House.gov website is out of date, I found an in-date resource and I'm in 04.
And I knew I was registered in 04 I just thought that might have been in error.
its out of date in terms of this election cycle, but you are probably being represented by va-07 >right now<. Maps changed this cycle following the 2020 census.
Let’s go Joe!!!!!
Mad-Lad-of-RVA t1_j0ymrkx wrote
I just shook Joe Morrissey's hand, looked him in the eye, walked into IBEW 666, and voted for Jennifer McClellan. lol
