I'm in an airport and it's too early to be awake and functional, but here we are. The search for ice and charging my devices has begun.

Were/are you part of the holiday travel craze this year? If so, where did you go? What's your favorite or least favorite part of traveling during the holiday season?

Merry not-quite-New Year to all!

Im also awake too early to be functional but all I have to blame is creeping anxiety. I hope wherever you’re going is awesome!

No holiday travel for us. Our holiday arrangement has long been that we travel for thanksgiving and host Christmas at our house. It’s worked well for about a decade and saved a lot of stress. I remember cross-country driving to various grandparents homes for Christmas (as a military kid, we never lived close to family) and it was always a schlep and more stressful than fun. Doing my best to save my own kid from that.

Thanks! I'm going to Richmond today 😉.

But the trip was totally worth it. Family trip of sorts in PR. I'll just know better than to book a red-eye from San Juan in the future. That was not a fun airport to camp out in for a few hours. Logan is considerably nicer for the layover thankfully!

Well let me be the first to (preemptively) welcome you home! May your flight be on time and the seat next to you vacant 🙏

Interviewer yesterday: Describe your worst boss ever and tell me about how you handled yourself in a serious conflict with them. Lie to me. Hard.

SnarkMatter OP t1_j24bq4y wrote

Interviews really are their own skill set. Often one that has nothing to do with the job at all. Good luck with whatever you are interviewing for!

GrayRVA t1_j24moze wrote

Thank you! It was a PR type role. I’m using past tense because when asked that question, shit-you-not, I blurted out “Oh, wow, we're really going here now?!”

His cute fishing expedition isn’t going to be so cute when someone says “My boss groped me and I handled it by not reporting them because I needed a paycheck.”

10

TheCheeseDevil t1_j24q45k wrote

Seriously! That could be a pretty traumatic question. If I answered that honestly in an interview the tone would get pretty dark, quick!

6

GrayRVA t1_j24sbw6 wrote

Exactly! And it’s why my comment said “Lie to me. Hard.”

I interview people pretty frequently at work and beyond skill set, I really am just looking at how a person communicates, if they speak graciously about their current or former teammates, and their thoughts on working as part of a team. Our work is very team based regardless of position, and I need to know they can be happy being respectful of everyone on the team if they join us. Moral of the story- be pleasant to all. It makes work (and life) happier for everyone.

GrayRVA t1_j24kp7r wrote

I was asked the same question a zillion different ways. It was like the personality tests I taken as an applicant and reviewed when I was hiring for my team. At some point you will drop the whole “I want to be a farmer” and reveal “I actually hate animals.”

I woke up at 3 to get to work to boss air traffic around and I want no part of it today. This week has burnt me out for some reason. Good news though, I get to work overtime on New Year’s Eve 🙄

I have a flight today with a connection in dulles. Woke up to a notification that the flight out of RIC is delayed and i would miss the connection so now I get to drive to dulles last minute.

The extent of my holiday travel was a quick day trip to see family in Lynchburg. Otherwise, I’m lucky that my (mostly young adult) children come to me. I love to cook for them. The downside of that is the time from thanksgiving to New Year’s is one enormous slide into becoming a small whale. Once they leave, I will spend the winter becoming a smaller whale by spring.

I’m saying I feel like a whale after all of the Thanksgiving to New Year’s eating and drinking. Time to tone it down after New Year’s, start eating better and less, and get back into working out.

I get that completely. I got on the scale this morning and the battery died. My first thought was I broke it. All the goodies for Christmas were very indulgent this year. I asked hubby to pick up tiramisu for Christmas Eve and he brought home a whole tray. I think I'm going to wait a couple of weeks before replacing the battery ☺️.

Oh I am with you. I think I’ll wait until about February 1 to weigh myself and use January as a buffer.

Drove to Long Island for Christmas.

My least favorite part was sitting on the NJ turnpike in 12 degree weather at midnight on Christmas morning just before exit 1 in standstill traffic for an hour as a 4 car wreck that blocked all lanes north and south was cleared.

My 2nd least favorite thing was the Royal Farms food I bought Christmas Eve after bailing out off the Baltimore Washington Parkway which also was totally stopped due to a wreck. Those chicken tenders were bad, the mashed potatoes were bad, as were the max and cheese and veggie sub. Lesson learned on that one.

9

SnarkMatter OP t1_j23me6y wrote

Oof. I've done NJ Tpke many a time. Godspeed!

5

Chickenmoons t1_j23n6is wrote

I’ll still take a few standstill incidents over normal 95 traffic from here up to there though, that’s for sure.

NO traveling for us as we all live relatively close to each other. Trekking out to niece's place to see her decorations before they come down and an impromptu house warming as this is a new place with her adorable BF.

I will never travel for the holidays, it makes it feel like work. I have no problems with those that do unless they complain about traffic/delayed flights etc. I mean you are traveling during the busiest time of the year, of course all of that is going to be there!

Home. I binge watched a bunch of crime videos. I've had a hard time sleeping. I'm extra paranoid, and I'm not about to add any fuel to the fire. No, I'll be a little hermit this week. Plus, I'm broke.

We spend Christmas in Hilton Head, this year has been ridiculously cold like everywhere. Been enjoyable with our new puppy, a good distraction as first Christmas without my Dad. My mom came for a few days - that was hard.

Travel wise all is has been ok. Heading back to RVA tomorrow a little fearful of traffic but we will try and leave early.

The holiday travel hasn’t quite ended for me, headed to near Baltimore this morning to snag my mom’s car that broke down on Monday. Dreading this as I can’t take Dramamine beforehand since I’ll be driving one of the cars back.

You might try Bonine - it doesn't put me to sleep like Dramamine does.

I’m in Miami still getting whatever sun and warmth I can get. I really love how easy and fast RIC airport. I got there to fly out on the 23rd and made it through bag check and TSA in literally 20 minutes. Would never dream of such a thing in South FL. I hated waiting at the gate however where someones child had some musical toy playing its noises VERY loudly for at least 15 minutes.

Can I vent about something- there’s a guy who is a realtor for restaurant space in Richmond and who chats with me once in a while on IG and says inappropriate shit, and it’s like, dude, you’re married and you have two kids… and I’m married… what would your wife think? God damnit I don’t like it.

4

SnarkMatter OP t1_j25hgwk wrote

Maybe it's just me, but I think you should tell his wife that you don't like it very much.

3

Shomer_Effin_Shabbas t1_j25j8in wrote

I don’t know her name, only seen one photo of her on his personal account. And it’s hard because we began chatting I feel like just as buddies, and I’ve always had male friends… he’s just pushing the envelope.

No travel for me, but my daughter is visiting for the week and we spent part of today at the Virginia Culture and History museum. The renovations are all done and the place is beautiful inside and out. If you're into American history, give yourself at least two hours and maybe three to see it all.
