Howdy, folks. I have a male rabbit who in about a month will be due to get neutered. I'm unfamiliar with Richmond vets, so I thought I'd ask here for any recommendations on the best and most cost effective vets for this desired service. I also ask now so that if it has a waiting list I can call a month ahead to see about getting a chance. Or just your favorite vet. I definitely want to establish a go to for myself. Thanks!

Cary Street Vet does good rabbit work, super friendly, but not the cheapest. Cost per line item is on par with others, but the number of items tends to be higher, in my experience. The trade off being quality care.

Not too many options in Richmond. Prevent a litter does them if you can get in. I took mine to Jolly Pond which is in VA beach. Owner is wonderful and that’s what I use for vet care now. It’s far is the problem.

For procedures typically you will be provided an estimate with several line items, not just “neuter” but like:

-exam fee

-surgeon call fee

-OR use fee

-y tubing set

-venous access

-suture pack x1

-anesthesia fee

-anesthesia tech fee

Etc etc etc. For example some vet places will break things down to the individual parts of IV access, I mean any product that gets opened will have its own line. Other places bundle the IV access to a larger charge that includes all the individual pieces.
