Where can I watch/stream live local news if I don’t have cable? Is NBC 12 the best coverage or would you suggest a different outlet?

Ok where do you watch it?
If you have a tv, you can get a digital antenna for around $30 and pick up about 30 channels
Directv Now, aka, cable.
You can download the NBC 12 app and follow the weather that way
This is the way. They make antennas super discreet looking now too. Just make sure to get an amplified one.
I go to the NBC 12 site and Watch Live when we have a tornado warning.
NBC 12 would be my choice. If you want other options though:
$30? I got one for $10 at CVS years ago that does the same thing.
I watch the local news using OTA. Bought a $30 antennae I adhered to a window pane
Ok thanks, I’ve literally never used an antenna so I didn’t think of it! I’ll look for one

The antenna needs to be on the wall facing the towers. You can look up their location online
If you have paramount plus you can live stream entire local 6 channel. Like its one of their features. Unfortunately peacock does not do this for nbc

Weird, I can’t speak to that. I bet there’s an ota sub that might have guidance
Related question: I really like talk radio that discusses local politics. Back in NY I would listen to the Brian Lehrer show, but I haven't found anything comparable for Richmond. Does anyone have suggestions?
As many others here have said, you can get most of the local channels with a cheap antenna. I went a little overkill, and installed a 7-foot antenna in my attic with a rotator. I can punch in the degree of a transmitter for the station I'm interested in and it'll move the antenna so that it points to it, and with a booster I can pick up channels from NoVA, Charlottsville, Virginia Beach, and parts of North Carolina, but these are the outliers and if the atmospheric conditions aren't right, it comes in and out, which can be quite annoying...
...but yes, a cheap antenna should do you well for the local channels.
If you download the NPR One app, you can listen to all of their stuff, as well as 25 minute excerpts of the Brian Lehrer show. Also, 88.9 VPN is the local npr channel here on the radio.
Thank you. Access isn't the problem. I can listen to full episodes of Brian Lehrer on wnyc.org.
I'm wondering if there is an analogous show down here and if so what is it called?
If you want to pick up NBC12 consistently, make sure to get a YHF/VHF antenna (it will have rabbit ears). NBC 12 reception is spotty with the flat antennas.

NBC 12 is all I watch. Weather people are good.
