I was driving by Traders Joes in Midlothian and people were just driving through red lights and honking like crazy at each other. I don't know what was going on. I had a green light and had to dodge two people.

Richmond has more drivers running reds than anywhere else I’ve been. I got a dash cam specifically because of this.

had some fuck (a couple weeks ago) splash water on my wife and i then try to fight me in the street bc he almost ran a stop sign at Leigh/Allen which would have killed us both and took exception to our disapproval of his shit driving. yeah, rva drivers are hot garbage.

This happened to me when I first moved here at boulevard and broad. The walk sign on the crosswalk was broken and I went across anyways and got into a verbal altercation with a couple who almost hit me in the crosswalk. They ended up chasing me through the Exxon parking lot and tried to hit me a second time, then got out and tried to fight me. I’m literally scared to cross there now!!

My only gripe is that MD didn't appear until no. 40. Drove from VA to ME and back a couple of different years and MD was by far the scariest part of the trip both ways both times. And that was taking a route that's not I95.

That's why I have a hard time taking lists like this seriously. I've never seen a six car pileup on the interstates around here, but have multiple times in MD

As a native Virginian, I am always down to clown on MD drivers but I gotta say, Richmond area drivers (at least of this past year) are right up there with them. The amount of tailgating, reckless speeding, mind boggling decisions regarding passing others that I seen on a daily basis is next level.

Oh it is for sure getting worse. This week alone my plan to count to 2 before proceeding across boulevard probably saved at least an accident if not worse twice. My light was green and people were still flying through sort of thing. I'm just saying I'm not sure there should be 34 spots separating us.

I agree. Lived in nova and go back frequently as my family is there, so I can attest that MD drivers suck. But rva drivers blatantly run red lights and stop signs allll the time, an imo are worse than MD drivers.

just the holidays? seems like all year round to me. i’ve never had anyone squeal across a solid double yellow to angrily speed past me than i have on forest hill avenue!

Some shithead in a yellow Crown Vic blew through the Hull/Brander light doing at least 45mph a full twenty seconds after it went red. It's just fucking outrageous at this point.

I wish there were two car horns, A polite one and an angry one- because yesterday a lady WOULD NOT turn left on an intersection at a green arrow light, and when I beeped after a minute, she leaned forward and shushed me on her rear view mirror! And then we both missed the turn!! She didn’t go until it popped up again!! I was in no hurry but I was just so confused.

AlphaStrike89 t1_j0pro84 wrote

Usually the super quick tap on the horn people understand as the "polite" horn.

Right? That’s what I usually do but she wasn’t having it. I felt bad, I never pop my horn :/ but Christmas driving, dude.

The only time Richmonders drive aggressively. Can y'all practice for the rest of the year please? Idk if I can move back home otherwise lol

Just treat every intersection like a roundabout and you’ll be ok

thecompactoed t1_j0ubsil wrote

yeah but I almost got run over by a guy in a big truck speeding through the roundabout by Sub Rosa. I also almost got murdered by a guy in a big truck speeding through the roundabout by Pizza Bones.

Hurlaroid t1_j0udgbq wrote

Oof that sucks. TBH I drive a big truck, but I drive it like what it is - it’s construction equipment. It’s big, cumbersome, and dangerous and should be respected by the driver. People who drive their trucks like they are in a sports car are assholes and idiots.

2

thecompactoed t1_j0udpab wrote

Exactly. I'm not "anti-truck" per se, but you have to treat it with responsibility if you're going to be on city streets. One of those times I was in a car going through the roundabout; the guy just sped through without slowing down, let alone yielding. I honked and he flipped me off.

The other time I was crossing in the crosswalk. Again, the guy didn't slow down, and I had to jump away from him. I hit the car with my hand as I did and he turned to me and rolled his eyes and just kept going without slowing down. Hard for me to wrap my head around that level of callousness when I could've been killed.
