My mom can't use her insurance and both the place of employment (a university) and Anthem have told us to call Virginia DHRM. It goes straight to voicemail. We've tried almost every day over the past week and a half with no return phone call.

My mom has medicine and therapy she needs, since we're already in a rough state at the moment for other reasons. It is incredibly infuriating to feel like the Virginia DHRM is just ignoring us and every else we talk to is just pawning us off on someone else.

Is the Virginia DHRM even open? Richmond would be like a 3 hour drive for me but if it means talking to someone who can help, then it would be worth it. We literally just want to pay for her insurance so she can keep getting her medicine for mental and physical health and therapy. She paid for the last period, we just want to pay again yet no one answers.

Sorry if it's a ramble. Thank you all if you know anything.

Have you called the Office of Health Benefits? Their number is 804-225-3642 and their email address is ohb@dhrm.virginia.gov. Sometimes they take a few days to get back to you but they are the ones who can point you in the right direction. I work at DHRM so hopefully this helps.

It's very odd that the University would be directing you to DHRM - the University should have a benefits administrator who could handle any questions like that.

In addition to the other number listed, you could try the employee dispute resolution number:

For an objective, confidential consultation on employment rights and responsibilities as well as available options in resolving workplace conflict, Virginia state government employees, managers and human resource personnel may contact the Office of Employment Dispute Resolution (EDR) AdviceLine Consultant at:

1-888-23ADVICE (1-888-232-3842)

Sorry, I wasn't totally clear - my mom isn't an employee of the university but my dad worked for them and had insurance through them after retirement. He unexpectedly passed away recently and it's been very difficult for us trying to figure things out. She paid for 3 months but missed a payment and her insurance was terminated.

She accepts responsibility for that, but we were told by the university and Anthem to call the Virginia DHRM and they'll reinstate it and allow up to pay for the missed payment and the next 3 months.

Not sure if that helps with context. Thank you.

First, I'm sorry for your and your mom's loss. If you're not getting a timely response from the DHRM, you might want to reach out to her State representee with your issue, as they might be able to light a fire under their butts...
